DoubleTree by Hilton Schenectady Downtown

I am not sure you want me to share my experience. I would never stay at another Double Tree Hotel. First, you have to call maintenance since the lights and television are unplugged. When maintenance arrives, they await a tip and I found out that this is done is almost every room since I asked people in the elevator and in the hotel and they all had the same story. What a SCAM to get extra money from people. Look into this since it is done to everyone. Second, their dining room is a joke. My daughter and I ordered a salad with crispy chicken. We waited over a half-hour and when they came we had two different lettuces since they probably ran out. There was no dressing and when we asked for dressing, they looked at us as if we were requesting something foreign. We asked for ranch dressing and it looked like tartar sauce. We then said give us balsamic and I guess they never put any oil in it. It was gross and my daughter's salad was old with brown marks on it. Third - Breakfast. My daughter asked for waffles and guess what? The waffle maker was broken. She got pancakes that looked so greasy that she did eat them.

Terrible rooms, unclean, broken toilet. Had to switch rooms to an equally sub par quality room. Im a Hilton honor member and normally have no issues, not good!!! Also $60 more than the competition 1 mile away

room was clean and decent in size but the toilet door was unacceptable as it was slide door making the toilet less private. The service was slow as staff was limited. The breakfast was ala carte with basic options and basic in taste. The 2 staff who treated us were kind though.

Called in before hand to confirm my late check in which was around 1230am and was assured that the time was fine and also confirmed that breakfast was free/included. This is my second time staying at a DoubleTree, Binghamton was my first (great experience). I check in and the front desk told me breakfast was not included and I was misinformed. Not the same welcoming experience as Binghamton, and no cookies which I thought was the hotels primary niche. It was late so we get to our room (my wife and toddler) thought we would just follow up in the morning. Morning comes same thing and they confirm breakfast is a la carte and not included. The interesting thing was we were not the only ones ill informed. Two other families during breakfast I overheard having the same issue with the misinformation. We ordered anyway since we were there already. Breakfast was 1/10 and I can’t say anything good about it. Very pricey for what you get, two plates and coffee for $50+ included tip. We sat ourselves as no one was really tending to guests and there were only two servers. Finally acknowledged and the orders took a while to come out and one order came out incorrect. Waitress resolved very promptly though. There was one nice reception, I cannot recall her name but very sweet and welcoming who assisted with extra toiletries since they didn’t replace them when the bed was made. Also provided extra bedding for our toddler since the first night was rough for him.

Don and Michelle where the best manager and desk agent I have ever encountered at a hotel Michelle gave me cookies and don gave me life advice and made me think critically about my future (please promote them they really do deserve it)

As with many well-known hotel chains, your experience can depend on who’s working during your stay. My only complaint was finding a strand of hair on the shower handle. I called the front desk, but no one followed up. I'm not sure if they were busy, forgot, or if my message got lost. Overall, my experience was good; I loved the location as it was within walking distance of Center City and the main attractions. The staff were super friendly, the dining area was spacious, and the breakfast was enjoyable (not included).
