The Esplanade Hotel

I can't for the life of me understand how many people have given this hotel a mainly 5 star rating! My husband and I stayed at the Esplanade for four nights and we will never visit this hotel again.Our room smelled musty (probably why a window had been left open).There where damp patches making the wallpaper peel near the ceiling and the furniture looked worn out.I removed the bed pillow cases to not only find they had no liner but where covered in brown stains,one even had what looked like blood another was shaped like a sausage roll and full of lumps.These had to be taken down to reception to get them changed. The restaurant food was average to poor with very economic portions.We chose kippers one morning for breakfast which arrived with a couple of pieces of bare stale bread as butter seemed to be rationed to one small portion per person,not enough to even cover your toast.The lady on the next table sent her poached eggs on toast back as there was mold on the bread. As for entertainment "the best live acts in town" turned out to be bingo and a singer who needs to keep their day job!

very nice hotel. wonderful views. our double room was lovely, sea view nice and warm very spacious. new large shower, plenty of hot water. meals were nice if a little on the small side. entertainment room good. all staff were friendly and would help you any way they could. nice pleasant stay but awful coach journey to scarborough but thats another story.

Stayed here for 1 night, good location, staff friendly, room nice and bed comfy. We managed to park right outside the hotel, you pay £2:50 to the hotel for the permit. The downside for us was breakfast, I thought I’d seen that it was a full English, but it’s not, it’s a bag outside your door containing a pastry, yogurt, porridge pot, banana etc each. Emma’s diner is a lovely place for breakfast though.

Had a 4 night stay with Daishs ,my 3rd in 4 months. Hotel was immaculate, my single room,although rather small had a huge bath and wonderful shower providing instant hot water and easily regulated. Had side view overlooking Scarborough, which is well worth a visit. Soups,as with previous excursions were really nutritious, and choice was exceptional. Personally, I thought the portions, Were smaller than the other Daishs hotels, but I could be wrong . It is not easy serving 165 guests at the same time in very limited space, but the staff were excellent and obviously needed more ,as we had to wait longer than usual. But the main course was consistently of good quality. At 80,I have become a Daishs Aficionado, and would recommend anyone to use this form. Our driver Richard, from Bridlington, was patience personified and a big thank you is due from All of the passengers.Thank you Daishs!!

This hotel has a lot going for it with excellent entertainment, especially Joel, who we would have paid good money to see. All the staff throughout are friendly and helpful especially Franki and Gabriella behind the bar. The bedroom was a bit dated and tired but it was spotlessly clean and cleaned every day to a high standard. The only disappointment was we had paid £30 extra for a sea view room, but as our room was in the attic, you could only see the sea if you were standing up, unlike last year where we had a full sea view room with a table & chairs to have your coffee in the morning with an amazing view. The major negative was the dire service in the restaurant, an issue that was mentioned by a previous review a few weeks ago. We were sat in the same area mentioned by this reviewer and we would talk to diners coming in for their meals and again when they left, and on one occasion we hadn’t even started ours, and on the other occasions we were still eating ours. We would sit down for breakfast at 8:30 but always waited 35 minutes before our cooked breakfast arrived. To be honest it was annoying but it became a standard joke with the other diners sat in our area to try and guess who would be served first. Despite these couple of negatives we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return in the future, but hopefully to a different section in the restaurant.

Once again staff were just fantastic, From Simon the manager,to reception staff, Waiting staff,bar staff,coffee shop,and cleaners,and anybody i.ve missed,you aswell. Rooms as last time,beautifully clean,spacious,and brilliant views,always warm and cosy Hotel is well situated for the spa theatre,and for the less able,don,t worry,there is a lift to take you to the beach and spa. As with the last time,food was more than adequate,for both breakfast and dinner. Entertainment was a mixture,we enjoyed vast majority,but hey ho,you can,t please everyone,every night. Keep up the good work,we will definitely return,for the staff alone.
