We traveled to Savannah to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary—a much-anticipated getaway, especially since we hadn’t been able to take a vacation in over two years. We were excited to explore the city and make the most of everything it had to offer. One of the highlights of our trip was experiencing two incredible Black history tours: The Freedom Trail Tours and From Slavery to Freedom. Both were phenomenal and deeply enriching—truly a must-see for anyone visiting Savannah. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. After the tours and with some time to spare, we decided to visit Geneva’s Fried Chicken and Cornbread, based on strong reviews and local recommendations. Unfortunately, our experience there did not meet expectations, and we were disappointed with the meal. We then checked into the New AC Hotel Savannah Historic District, and from the moment we arrived, we encountered issue after issue. We had booked our accommodations through Bonvoy Rewards customer service, and the representative confirmed that we reserved a corner balcony river view room. However, upon arrival, the front desk informed us that there was a coding error and that the room we believed we booked was actually one of only three such rooms in the entire hotel—all of which were already occupied. We were instead offered a room with a balcony, but the view left much to be desired. To catch even a glimpse of the river, we had to sit in the far corner of the balcony and turn the chair; otherwise, the view was primarily of the parking lot. Additional disappointments included: • Non-functional outlets near the television, which meant we couldn’t use the desk lamp. • No microwave in the room. • Housekeeping service only offered every other day, so we never returned to a freshly cleaned room. • No pool or jacuzzi to enjoy or relax in under the sun. • No landscaped outdoor areas or gardens. • Low-quality, one-ply toilet paper and awkwardly shaped square commodes. Overall, this stay did not reflect the standard of quality and service we’ve come to expect from the Marriott brand. It was a letdown during what should have been a joyful and memorable celebration.
