A Stay in "Fire Pit 2 Queens" - Not a Luxury Experience A Stay in "Fire Pit 2 Queens" - Not a Luxury Experience We chose Loews Santa Monica because it promised a luxury experience "steps away from the sand and iconic attractions." We also liked the fire pit on the private patio and the promise of an "ocean view." At nearly $1k a night for two queens, we expected to be treated to nice splurge. Sadly, the experience fell short. Here's what you should know based on our experience: 1. Expect long check-in delays without welcome drinks. We arrived at 11:30 on a weekend and were told that the room was not ready. We were led to believe that the room could be ready at any moment. We waited in the lobby for five and a half hours for the room to become available. I am sad to report that five or so other guests were similarly situated. While the "resort fee" promises "welcome drinks," no drinks were offered. Communication during the check-in process was poor. 2. Expect a very, very small room and no place to put luggage. Our two queen room was 375ft². This is very small given the layout of the room and the patio door. We had three clam-shell suitcases and no place to put them. We were having to jump over baggage just to get to the bathroom and to the doors of our room. There was also only room for one night table per bed. When two people are sharing a bed, this is inconvenient. While there was a pocket door for the toilet, the space was too small to comfortably dress. The room needs a door separating the bathroom from the room. 3. Expect pool closures without any adjustment to the resort fee. During our stay, the pool was closed for "exterior enhancements." While Loews invited us to show our room key at a "neighboring property" and swim there, management did not provide the name of the property or any details. Guests were still required the pay the full Lowes resort fee. 4. "Ocean view" does not mean that you can see the ocean. We reserved an "ocean view" room and understood that to mean that we would be able to sit outside and watch the waves. In order to see the ocean from our room, we to stand on the patio furniture to see over the high wall surrounding the patio. At Loews, "ocean view" means only that you are on the side of the building that faces the ocean. It does NOT mean that you can see the ocean. 5. The Minibar is touchy and can result in unexpected charges. The Minibar snacks are in a drawer that pulls out. In our room, the drawer had a hitch, causing all the snacks to become slightly dislodged upon opening. This is a trap for the unwary. 6. The shower is lukewarm. We showered on different days and at different times and all of us reported, at best, a lukewarm shower. 7. Lowes is not on the beach. Loews is short walk to the beach. While this did not bother us, it prevents the guest from enjoying a hotel cocktail or umbrella in the sand. It is really close to the Santa Monica Pier and the original Muscle Beach. 8. The room's sh
