Puerta Azul

Very quiet & relaxing hotel. Friendly staff make you feel at home. Nice beach, nice pier, great for snorkeling. Food was excellent, thanks to Chef Rose. If you want to step back & live life at a slower pace then Puerto Azul is the perfect place.

If you want to avoid a touristy vacation and are all about an authentic but luxurious experience, then Puerta Azul is the perfect choice! The atmosphere is amazing. The bungalows are comfortable and clean. The kitchen staff is great and the food is delicious!

The most dreamy place I have ever visited. Perfect place for a girl's getaway (although I can definitely see me coming back on a romantic rendezvous). The staff is so kind and the food is amazing! Excellent wifi and my bed was the most comfy, I slept so heavy and peaceful every night! The boat ride to the secret nurse shark location was an incredible way to spend the day. I never thought I would get to have an experience like that. Magical!! Recommend 10/10! Thank you, Talia!!

The property itself is so gorgeous… the green backdrop, the beautiful water, long dock, quiet beach - all of it! my pictures are soooo tropical and vibrant. I posted an insta story and everyone was commenting! The bungalows are clean and cool and the beds were so comfy… Highly recommend a trip by boat to pigeon caye to snorkel.. some of the clearest and prettiest water I’ve ever seen. Also the food at the restaurant on site is soooo good. We had breakfast and dinner there and it felt really local and delish - plus the atmosphere is casual. Would definitely go back!!!

The bungalows are clean, spacious, well equipped and stylish. Beautiful beach in a prime location of the island. The staff is friendly and super helpful. My favorite thing was the amazing food! It was exceptional. If you look for some peace and quiet, and some amazing food this is the place to go.

What we liked: Rooms are tastefully appointed. Kitchen staff are delightful. Pier out over water is great for getting past shallow areas of sea grass. Food on site is good, and there are quite a few nearby restaurants with great food. What we wished we knew beforehand: This is obviously not the fault of the resort, but the reefs all around Roatan, including the reef near the resort, have been devasted by stoney coral tissue loss disease in the past year or two. Roatan has been long been known for having some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Carribean, but unfortunately this is no longer the case. I wish I had known this before choosing to go to Roatan, but the information doesn't seem to have percolated up to tourist information sites as yet, at least not that I saw. I was also a little disappointed by the hotel setting. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, but keep in mind that the grounds are at most 100 ft wide and sandwiched between two high walls, with neighboring buildings close by. The beach is fine, but quite developed. Again, this was probably my fault for not figuring this out before we went. Hopefully this information can help other travelers who likewise value pristine settings find the right destinations for them. And some minor quibbles: Coffee was bad, toilet area needs a door, and beach front bungalows would benefit from screens that would allow you to have doors open to the view and breeze without letting in bugs.

Such an amazing experience staying at Puerta Azul. This boutique hotel is scenic, leafy, quiet and romantic. The staff are wonderful and always ready to help with anything needed and provide helpful suggestions. The location is great, close to the airport and west end but tucked away in lovely quiet Sandy Bay. All the food and drinks at the onsite restaurant are delicious too. We stayed in one of the ocean view villas which had everything we needed, felt private, was surrounded in greenery and complete with hammock on the front porch. The hotel’s private beachfront and pier are a standout with the gorgeous blue door opening to the long pier - with hammocks swinging at the end of the dock and snorkeling just a short swim away - a perfect spot to watch the sunsets. We also loved our day trip with incredible snorkeling on the Puerta azul boat, which can be hired, driven by awesome captain Edison. This special spot is not to be missed.

LOVED EVERY MINUTE!!!!! Visited Roatan for the first time end of May. Puerta Azul did not disappoint. Beautiful and Peaceful property located in a lush tropical garden. We stayed in the oceanfront bungalow, I counted 40 steps from the door to the beach lounger, what more could you ask for!! The bed in our bungalow was super comfy. Breakfast was delish as well dinner. We loved everything we ordered. We ate dinner 5 of the 9 nights we stay at Puerta Azul. Husband love the Shrimp Curry (he ordered it twice). The staff goes above and beyond to makeyour stay pleasant and memorable. We loved the quiet location. It was super easy to walk out to the road and catch a taxi or request a driver to take you to West End or West Bay. We hope to be back next year and would not stay anywhere else.

Amazing Place! We return here as often as possible, once or twice a year. Aside from the obvious (beautiful, natural, serene setting with impeccable hospitality and an abundance of water activities to enjoy) we truly enjoy seeing this place grow and appreciate the thoughtful additions that continually appear.
