Amba Kola is an absolutely amazing place. My partner, eight year old son and I stayed for two nights and it was without doubt the best place we stayed in during our two week holiday in Sri Lanka. Janik, his lovely mother, trusty staff member, Rislan, and all other team members treated us like royalty without being overbearing. The food, hospitality, ambience and surrounding area were all outstanding. Everything at Amba Kola is done with great thought, passion and love; from the handmade charcoal soaps in the bathroom, to the safari themed wall murals throughout the building. And the homemade dishes served up whenever you fancied were simply exquisite! All ingredients, including the spices are homegrown and mum sure knows how to cook. Her food is out of this world! When we left, we were presented with a heart felt letter, flowers and some home grown and dried turmeric. Amba Kola’s attention to detail and customer service is absolutely fantastic. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. ❤️🦚

What a wonderful stay! Hosted by Janik and his mother, we couldn't have asked for more. Warm, homely welcome. Sri Lankan hospitality at its best! From the moment we booked Janik went over and above to make sure we had the best stay. He organised our safari for us. We had the most fantastic cookery class with mum! Breakfast and dinner superb. Beautiful home cooked food, everything was delicious. This place is an absolute gem. Janik, mum and team will make sure you have the best stay possible! ❤️

Een fantastisch verblijf gehad met hele lieve mensen. We hebben daar ook een safari geboekt wat heel leuk was en de cooking class gedaan. Die werd door de moeder van de eigenaar gegeven. Geleerd hoe je diverse curry’s kan maken. Erg lekker. Een parel in Sri Lanka, een aanrader! Dennis en Manon

Deze accommodatie en de lieve mensen was ons beste verblijf in Sri Lanka, we verbleven er 2 nachten en hadden de kamer “Island”. Deze kamer heeft een badkamer, waarbij het douche gedeelte uitzicht geeft op de bananenbomen en de lucht. Wat voor belangrijk is voor de belevenis zijn de mensen die de service verlenen. En die was in alle facetten top. Of het nu het welkom was, het ontbijt, de kookworkshop of de persoonlijke aandacht. Stuk voor stuk lieve mensen, die echt het gevoel geven dat je welkom. Bij vertrek kregen we zelfs een bosje bloemen mee uit eigen tuin. Amba Kola moet beslist bezoeken. Wij houden er een fijne herinnering aan over.

Absolutely wonderful , from the time we got here , the staff were all very friendly . This place is somewhere to escape to , no tv , the rooms were very clean , and the food was probably one of the best curries I have had to date , we did the safari with them , we didn’t need a guide as our driver , was a guide, so we saved money , personal tour . The animals were really great to see in the wild , the guid would spot stuff , we hadn’t even seenn . Crocodiles , rare birds, and his English was good , we shall be sad to leave , they are having a swimming pool built , will will just enhance the experience

The whole experience was fabulous from the accomodation to the food, cooking classes and safari as well as a personal tour from Janice the owner. As a solo traveller I was well and truly spoilt. I would highly recommend Amba Cola to anyone looking to stay in this area.

We had a wonderful three days at Amba Cola. From the minute we arrived until the moment we left our family was looked after with care and attention. The food was always delicious and shared with a smile. The beds are very comfortable and the outside bathrooms a delight. We did a number of experiences with Amba Cola - the lake safari, the elephant safari, a local tour and the Ayurvedic experience. They were all fab and the lake safari was particularly special. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay at this wonderful home from home.

If you're looking for great food made from local ingredients, many from the garden served up in, cooked to perfection then this is the place for you. Even better, you can stay in a wonderful air conditioned room, in a wonderfully comfortable bed shrouded in mosquito netting and shower semi-alfresco in your well equipped unsuited shower room / toilet. Janik and his mum will look after you so thoughtfully and kindly you won't want to leave, and you'll vow to return. Go there if you can.

We stay 2 nights in Amba Kola and what a fantastic time we had. Janik the owner wasn’t here but Greshan and Swarne (Janik’s mum) I believe were exceptional hosts and really looked after us. We did a safari which was brilliant - we saw dozens of elephants, buffalo, deer, monkeys galore, even a crocodile or 2. This exceptional trip was organised by Janik and the driver was amazing with fantastic eyesight- he spotted things that we would have just driven past. This said, the 2 highlights for me were Swarne and her cooking. Swarne was warm and friendly and very funny she really couldn’t do enough for all of us, but her cooking…. This was some of the best food I have had in Sri Lanka- fresh and beautifully presented. If you are going to do a safari please stay here at this small family run place and be fed by Swarne and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
