"Stayed the night at the travel lodge amesbury as an emergency as I lost my house and all my belongings to a house fire. Room smelt musty and damp when I arrived but was so tired I didn’t care. Slept ok as was exhausted. woke at 5.30am seeing bed bugs crawling on the duvet went to reception to ask for a different room but was told they were fully booked and had nothing available to offer me. The man also informed me that the rooms had recently been sprayed for bed bugs so I assume they are aware they are infested. Ended up going to sleep in my car as could not bare to got back into the room. No alternative was offered to me 0 stars wasn’t an option or I would’ve given it that. Avoid like the plague"

"We have previously used this hotel for an overnight stay before heading to Southampton’s cruise terminals and it has been just fine. Until this time. The adjacent pub has closed down which gives the whole site a run down atmosphere. This has also resulted in the addition of an in-house restaurant (The Social) which I can only describe as utterly shambolic. It is way too small for the size of the hotel so it was massively crowded with queues at all food & drink stations with dirty dishes piled high on every available surface. There was one poor guy who was trying his best to make things work but got zero help from other staff members (management?) who made no effort too improve the chaos. If staying here! I would recommend going room only and swerving the restaurant altogether. We ate dinner at Thw Duck Inn nearby (very good) and ended up buying breakfast at a cafe later. All in all a very disappointing experience, probably our last."

"Felt super scary at first with the cracking floor, tilted walls, big mirror, and 512 years history, but later the place showed its charm - very lively at night with people chilling at the backyard, nice restaurant on site, being right opposite to the Anne? Gate which leads you to the Salisbury Cathedral. I prob would choose to stay here again next time I visit Salisbury! Btw the staff are warm hearted and helped us deal with our Apple Watch forgot in the room. Much appreciated!"

It's a lovely old house, and my bedroom was spacious and full of character, spotlessly clean and with a bed that gave me 10 hours' sleep. "We choose the Compasses (for my husbands birthday lunch) after reading the good reviews. The building is an 'olde worlde' traditional village pub. The menu is small but the choice is adequate. We both decided on the Rump Steak, Salad and Chips. The steak was nicely cooked, medium as we requested. The salad was a frilly lettuce leaf soaked in a sharp dressing. The chips were over overcooked, tasteless and dry. I don't consider a lettuce to be a salad and the chips to come from a packet. Needless to say we won't be back. "

Only downside was the parking, you get given a residents permit remotely and have to take your chances on this tiny road, and if no spaces available tough luck .It was a pain but that was the only downside really."
