There were good and bad aspects. The good outweighed the bad, overall, but I would not consider this a luxury resort. Pros: Gorgeous view of the harbor. We stayed in Pirates Pension, which is the lowest on the hill, but has the best view. The A/C was WORKING on our room. It was always nice and cool, which was great after a hot, humid day outside. The young guys that run the golf carts were very nice, always accommodating and would chat. Restaurant food was pretty decent. The seafood risotto is worth it! Studio with “kitchenette” even had a 2-burner stove, sink, mini fridge, microwave, some dishes, pots and pans, so it’s possible to cook some in the room. Even the studio had a small washer and dryer in the room which was nice after beach days!! Cons: The front desk staff was not helpful at all. When we arrived, after 4pm on a Saturday, it took a long time to check in when we asked about upgrading the room (it took an extra 20 minutes at least for her just yo find out how to look this up) and then we were told that our original room (we decided not yo upgrade at that point!) wasn’t even ready and waited at least another 20-30 minutes in the non-air conditioned lobby after flying most of the day. There might have been ONE person we encountered one day that was helpful. Other than that, they were outright rude. Our unit phone NEVER worked, and the front desk just told us that it “should work” and said they’d send someone but never did. We reported it on the first and second days of our week-long stay and it was never fixed. We had trouble using our cellphones on the island, so calling the front desk was necessary when we needed a taxi or needed something. They acted like we were stupid. The restaurant has very limited seating and staff. We were there in Sept, so they’re “slow season” but only one lady was delivering food to tables, taking orders, working the bar, clearing tables, doing everything other than cooking the food. She said that normally they have two people during the busy season. We never once were able to see or speak to the concierge. We ended up looking everything up ourselves. She was never there, even on the days/times they said she’d be there. Not resort specific, but for the island in general, BRING CASH, or anticipate using the ATM often bc you’ll need lots of cash for the taxis. Driving the island would be hectic. The drivers are kind of wreck less and roads very narrow and winding, so we didn’t want up rent a car. I can see why so many cars have dings and scrapes.
