Tregarthen’s is in a fine location with open views looking north to northwest towards the neighbouring islands of Tresco, Samson and Bryher and is only a few minutes walk from the jetty where Scillonian III docks and numerous boats to other islands can be boarded. However, the short but steep and unavoidable walk up to the hotel and the absence of lifts in the hotel may make it difficult for people who have problems with breathing or heart issues. Our room was not too big, though had a nice en suite and sea view. Clothing storage was inadequate so you may be living out of your suitcase. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and attentive at table. My main grouse - and it’s a big one - concerns the food provided at evening dinner. The same menu was offered every evening, with the addition of a few daily specials. There was a choice of two vegetarian meals on that repeated menu and no veggie choice among the specials. One of the repeated vegetarian dishes was a truly awful risotto, sloppy and tasteless. All for the bargain price of just shy of twenty-five quid! I have two risotto recipes at home which are greatly superior to this shameful offering. There are other places to get dinner nearby, but you will need to do your internet homework and book well ahead - a month or more - to be sure of getting a table.
