Villa Makambu

This villa was amazing, and the host was incredible. She helped us arrange all of our transportation (her husband and his company), and they became defacto tour guides helping us avoid cruise ship crowds and finding the authentic things and places to see and do. The villa was absolutely perfect for our large group. It is so large, we could easily all gather, but it also allows enough space for people to have some alone time.

Villa Makambu is an OASIS in the hills of Marigot Bay. It was even more beautiful in person than I could have imagined from the photos to. Just wrapped up a fabulous trip with 4 of my closest friends and this place was absolutely perfect for us. With access to 2 apartments on one side of the large pool, we each had plenty of space. There are full kitchens on each floor so we also stopped to get a few staples on the way from the airport which turned out great since the walk down to the bay is VERY dark at night and steep most of the way. But the views!! The hammock installed on the opposite building was a welcome surprise. Note that the weather is near perfect in January in my opinion-warm during the day, but with a nice breeze and cool enough at night I wasn't miserable trying to sleep. It rained a bit and there were few mosquitos flying about, but the house manager provided citronella candles thoughout the property, mosquito nets on all the beds and a few of my friends were smart enough to bring insect repellent. The pool was a bit too cold to swim in this time of year (I know because I TRIED!) but we still enjoyed laying out on the poolside chairs. The house manager and her family were just amazing and accommodating, arranging transportation for us whenever we needed it and even helped us to plan our excursions. Villa Makambu does not disappoint!
