My gf wanted to go somewhere warm in February. We both experienced cold February vacations in Florida and decided to look further south, which is how we wound up in Saint Lucia. I’d been previously, some 30 plus years ago, to a Club Med no longer in existence. We are not wealthy travelers and it doesn’t take much to please us, but we’re not exactly budget travelers either. What appealed to me was the price and the reviews seemed, for the most part, complimentary, main complaint seeming to be a wait for meals in the dining room. Off the plane I learned it was a two hour drive to the resort ($120), which I hadn’t anticipated. As we pulled up I thought maybe I’d been a victim of fake positive reviews as the place looks a bit like a spruced up Econolodge. There was nothing special about the room (water stains on the ceiling, slow drain in sink), but the bed was very comfortable, the place was clean, and we had a deck overlooking the pool on the top (third) floor. This resort is not directly on the beach, which is only a few minutes walk away. The beach itself, nothing special, but you can rent a chair and umbrella for $30 and there’s a restaurant right there called Spinnaker’s. The burgers were good. I also got an aloe vera leg massage from a guy named Allen. Downtown is maybe a 10–15-minute walk, very quaint, many restaurants, a couple of grocery stores, a couple of small malls. The weather was great, low 80s every day, a couple of 20-minute rain showers, left as quick as they came. Dinner is served in shifts between 6:30-9 pm. It’s not cafeteria style, like many all-inclusive places -- we were served at the table. We never had to wait long for our food, which was excellent for an all-inclusive resort. They changed the menu every couple of days. We liked the lasagna, spaghetti, and beef stew, and salads. Portion sizes are smaller than the average American restaurant, but we never left hungry. Breakfast was good. The desserts have room for improvement. All in all, Soco House did an excellent job. Their staff was friendly (thank you Ken) and helpful. The resort is all-adult and the lack of screaming children was a big plus. All in all, we got what we wanted: warm weather, a sandy beach, a pool without screaming children, a comfortable bed and good food. We hope to return.
