Lost Reef Resort

I spent 7 days at Lost Reef Resort with my husband in November 2024. We stayed in cabana 5, which directly overlooked the sea. The pictures are spot on accurate. It's as beautiful in person as it was during our research. The room was clean and comfortable. We were especially grateful for the air conditioning unit, which worked great and kept our room cool. The staff are generous and helped with all of our questions and even loaned us a few things we left at home. The resort is about 30 minutes from Placencia so we rented a car and enjoyed exploring the area. We had a wonderful experience and would recommend.

The small resort is an awesome spot to get away it has a large area dedicated to the resort for only have a few cabanas. The drinks were good an well priced, the pool is amazing. This piece of property sits up higher than most because it was one were the rail cars brought the bananas to the sea port. Some of the piers still remain in the water from that era. The owner is very friendly and has a wide variety of parties throughout the year.

Our small family stayed recently and the grounds are indeed super beautiful and felt very secluded. (We were trying to avoid crowds so this was definitely a plus!) The sea was filled with sargassum but that was the be expected this time of year and after wading out a few feet you can mostly avoid it. The pool offered an alternative swimming option and the pool was very clean and while it did have other people in it, it didn’t feel overcrowded. The rooms, while mostly clean, had a bit of a moldy smell and could definitely use a bit of an upkeep. Nonetheless, the room was quite comfortable. As the location was roughly 20-30 minutes away from other restaurants and grocery stores, we had planned to have most of our meals at the on-site restaurant. Upon arrival we reviewed the menu, and while it was a small menu, we were satisfied with the options offered. The first night when we sat down for dinner (roughly 6:30 pm) we realized that we may need to reconsider our meal options for the rest of our stay. Half of the very limited menu was not available and at 7:30 pm we were informed that our food would start to be prepared shortly; they were finishing up with the owners order first. A little after 8 pm we received our orders. Our waitress didn’t ask if we wanted to order drinks or offer any apology for the very long wait time. As we are also in the tourism industry we tend to be very understanding and lenient patrons and did not make any type of fuss the night. We quietly waited for our meals. We decided to give them one more chance for breakfast the following morning (it was a holiday so maybe they were short staffed the night before so why not give them another chance) however, we were then informed that they don’t offer breakfast (contrary to what we were told on the phone and what we read on previous reviews). We really wanted to love this place. The location on its own is a plus, but the price we paid for the room and the service we received were not worth it. I do hope the owners (who seemed to be very nice people) can make the small improvements necessary to have it reach its full potential.
