The Tan Hill Inn

Went up for Sunday lunch, for nearly £20 I can only say it was appalling, two slices of beef, flat soggy Yorkshire Pud, half a piece of carrot, half a piece of parsnip, two spuds, a spoon full of mash, no stuffing as stated on the menu and it was cold. Our friend had chicken, same plate apart from a small piece of frozen chicken. Pub has gone full on tourist attraction and happy to rip people off. Go for a pint and take a pack lunch, or avoid and save your money.

Our room was clean and tidy, the giant Yorkshire pudding was delicious and the Old Peculier didn’t disappoint. The staff are a credit, even when the food service had finished the chef was kind enough to do a pudding for us. Cracking, unique Yorkshire Pub… Cheers

My husband and I read the website and looked at some social media reviews and placed our trust in some well known media personalities whom raved about the Tan Hill Inn. We booked a superior suite as a treat for us en route to a trip further north. Following a 6hr drive, we were met with a Kurt welcome and were ‘told’ we had to wait for our room to be prepared. We bought a drink and duly waited. My first impressions of the entire place were not positive. It was dirty, untidy, unloved and not at all what I would call anyway acceptable. Once eventually inside the suite, it was a world away from what we had viewed on the website. I would understand some wear and tear, however there were damp patches in the bathroom which was also filthy with scum marks on the sink that clearly hadn’t been cleaned, a bin full of the previous guests unsanitary rubbish and the room had what looked like a melted and exposed electrical cable within the fireplace. On a positive note, the bed looked clean and was comfortable. We had to eat and so went for our pre-booked table. We waited an hour for food. The service was slow (I understand it was busy but the feeling I got from the staff was just a complete lack of care). The food was inedible as it was cold and so I sent it back. We went to bed hungry and exhausted. We had a group of loud drunk guys in the room adjacent to us who tried our door in the night several times (presumably drunk) and kept us awake until gone 3am. With no one to contact and being so isolated we felt trapped. We couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. We skipped breakfast and made a hasty retreat. Having read previous negative reviews I expect a sarcastic response, which to my mind sums up the managements’ complete lack of respect for paying customers.

We stayed in one of the superior double en-suite rooms which was the one with the bath, and wow, what a bath. The bathroom was spacious, stunning and very clean and shiney. The bedroom area was also spacious, clean and comfortable. For an Inn in the middle of 'nothingness' we were more than happy with our room and very suprised at the size. Every member of staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They were a joy to be in the company of. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. We had our evening meal here and every meal we saw come out looked so appertising. Hubby had the half rack of ribs which he said were really, really good. Now I'm not a big eater, but I love a Yorkshire pud, so when I saw 'Giant Filled Yorkshire Pud' on the menu, I had to have it. Expecting a dinner plate sized Yorkie filled with meat and veg, I got it slightly wrong. Not only was it dinner plate size horizontaly, it was the same size vertically, and it was filled to the top! Delicious as it was, I couldn't finish it, and neither could hubby finish my leftovers (which is unusual for him). The whole experience of spending the night here was brilliant from arrival to departure. Well done and thank you to every member of staff for making our stay that way. The only negative was that it was a cloudy night so we couldn't see any stars! That was the only thing we didn't like and not a thing that even the wonderful staff could sort out for us, but I'm sure they would have if it had been within their powers x

This is an amazing location and definitely worth visiting but the accommodation could do with a refresh and TLC. The rooms are reasonably clean but not spotless... it was the details like dusty shelves. For the price I paid, I expected more. The breakfast was delicious!

We visited the Tan Hill Inn as part a Birthday Trip for me & my partner. We had Sunday Lunch & comedy night. Both were really good. We however paid for a superior room with a wood burner & didn’t have access to the wood burner despite several requests for a lighter. There was no water in the room as advertised. The extraction fan for the wood burner rattled, which meant we had no sleep. However and only as we noticed as we had gone to bed that the bed was bloodstained & when making a cup of coffee, the cups had ring marks. Nobody around at that time of night to speak with. Contact the tan hill in afterwards we were given a £25 refund (after chasing up a reply) Therefore the remaining amount we have submitted a section 75 claim to the bank
