We booked a room for a family of three on the day we arrived in Iceland for the start of the Ring Road. We arrived at the hotel at 5:30 p.m. We did a self-check-in (with the email instructions they sent us). We were told we could park in front of the hotel. However, the parking was full, so we drove to the back of the hotel and were unsure if we could park there (we called, but no one answered). So we just parked there, assuming it's okay. When we entered our room, we were surprised that our sofa bed was not made, and our daughter had no extra bed sheets and pillows. Plus, the TV doesn't work in the room. We tried to call, but no one answered. We also got a bit confused about the payment (******* told us they had charged us a deposit, and we would pay the hotel directly for the remains) when confirming with them on the internet messaging. We didn't get a reply, and on the 2nd day, at around 9 a.m., they asked the cleaning staff to talk to us on the phone, saying the person would come and collect the money. After all the discussions, we paid the bill. After checking with *******, there was a miscommunication as they didn't charge us to hold the deposit. (to be fair this is not the fault of the hotel, but we feel unsportive through the process) Overall, it's a rather unpleasant experience. We were jetlagged with a child and not sure what was happening. Also, with no one on-site to help us, you will not get the service you need when you need it. On our last day back, we had a day in Reykjavik. We chose to stay in a proper hotel with a car park garage just a short drive away with a similar price with breakfast included.
