This is our 4th visit. I think that says it all really. You wouldn’t believe this place is 7 years old and a year round destination. On the whole everything is clean and well maintained. However, a small point, the sunbeds are now beginning to sag a bit. A minor point I know, but I don’t really have anything bad to say about the place! The staff here are wonderful, all of them. Happy in their work and all say Ola with a smile. The food is good, warm and fresh. The drinks are good although Riu have stopped doing mudslides, boooooo! Just look at the ratings, read between the lines though and make a considered judgement. Some claim food poisoning, which I’ve never seen here at all. It’s more likely the change in temperature, the increase in alcohol leading to dehydration. I’m also convinced some people mix up this riu palace with the one on Sal. That one did suffer with poorly people. Us included. That’s why we never went back there but and came here 3 more times. And don’t get me started on the cockroach complaints. People fear them like they’re flesh eating zombies. Grow up please, cockroaches live here as well as many other countries. Just deal with it. We found the bed counter pane rolled up at the bottom of the door helps. Failing that, make sure you book a high room, for some reason they can’t climb stairs! One word of note, the UV index can be really high on some days. Like 11!! Really easy to burn before you know it. We used Tui as our tour operator. Not a bad price compared to other destinations. But, 6 hours in a 737 seriously puts me off coming back. The seats are just simply not wide enough if you’re broad shouldered. The 767 was much better. I just wish Tui would consider another seat fit or a different aircraft for this route.
