This is an excellent Hotel to stay if you want to relax on the beach, swim in the pool or simply enjoy good food and drink. The staff are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The chalets are comfortable with good A/C if you find you need to cool down a bit during the day. The location is excellent.

This hotel officially wins the title of the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at in any country in my whole life. After just half day and one night, we had to check out and find a new one. The rooms have a weird stench. They are dirty with dust and cobwebs everywhere. There’s no hot water in the rooms and the wifi only works in the lobby - same with the phone signal if you have the local SIM/eSIM. The towels in the bathroom are old, dirty and ripped in many places. As there are holes in the bathroom ceiling, expect lots of bugs in your room. The AC can barely cool down the entire bungalow, so the heat inside is annoying. The sheets on the beds are also dirty. There’s a mini fridge available, however just like everything else, it’s filthy. Even though there’s a hotel beach, it’s covered in trash, and just a short walk away there’s a river that goes into the sea which is full of different types of trash, so swimming is not recommended at all. The sunbeds available at the beach are covered in fungus and rotting away. On top of all that, the worst part is probably the hotel restaurant. Poor choice of meals with food being available only at the start, despite the restaurant being open for each meal for about 2 hours. Even if you ask them to refill food, it will take them quite a while. If you don’t ask, the staff will just stand around staring at you. The cloths they give for cleaning your hands look like they’ve been used to clean the floors - all stained, ripped with bad smell. The food is old and prepared poorly (bacon served for breakfast was only suitable for local dogs). The toaster toasts only one side of the bread and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for at least two seasons. The juice machine is covered in bugs and dirt as well. You can’t even find fresh fruit here as everything tastes like it’s been left to age for a week before being served. There’s coffe and tea available, but they both look like tea - can’t tell them apart. For breakfast, don’t expect good bread, ham, cheese or vegetables as they simply don’t have those. Most you will get are beans, an egg with a green yolk, a bunch of rice/curry, some old chewy bacon and suspicious looking sausages. Overall, I would not recommend staying here to anyone. There are far better hotels available in the area for a reasonable price. This place, I wouldn’t even call a hotel. Not worth the time, money and nerves. Avoid at all cost.

Wir wollten am Ende unserer Rundreise ein paar entspannte Tage genießen, leider wurde daraus nichts. Grundsätzlich ist die Anlage schön gelegen, daher 2 Sterne. Alles in der Anlage ist heruntergekommen und schmuddelig/ dreckig, da hilft auch nicht eine Person die den Rasen pflegt. Wir haben einige Hotels auf unserer Reise erlebt aber hier scheint keiner ein Auge zu haben und noch weniger wird gereinigt. Die Handtücher waren dreckig bei der Ankunft im Zimmer und vieles dazu. Das Telefon klebte an der Hand, der Föhn ebenso, ekelig! Als wir vor dem Bungalow saßen kam der bekannte Anthony an und hat seine Ausflüge und Restaurant angepriesen, da fragt man sich warum er frei in der Anlage sein Restaurant anbieten kann obwohl diese selber eines hat?… Methode/Abzocke??..Abends dieses besucht und das Buffet für 5500 Rupien ist über den üblichen Preisen, wenn es gut wäre kein Problem, war es aber bei weitem nicht, genauso das Frühstück. Wir haben ein anderes Hotel gebucht und sind dann abgereist. Hier ist eine gründliche Renovierung nötig und vor allem Reinigung!

Such a beautiful place and so convenient for the airport. We were 24 of us from my ballet school in London and were very well cared for. The food was excellent with plenty of variety. Great rooms with everything needed. The grounds are fantastic and right by the beach. The young man on pool duty was fantastic bringing all my pupils towels e.t.c. With a smile. My only criticism would be I think they need fans or AC in the restaurant area as it becomes very hot ! A lovely hotel for a couple of nights on your way home - I could have stayed longer ! Lage: Das Hotel Ranweli (Waikkal) ist durch einen Fluß getrennte Halbinsel via Hotelfloß jederzeit erreichbar. Unser Bungalow war direkt am Meer an einem sauberen Sandstrand, wo das Tierleben pulsierte. Der Strand ist durch Küstenschutzmaßnahmen gut gegen das in der Regenzeit raue Meer abgesichert. Auch in der Regenzeit hat die Natur ihrmen Charm. Das Hotel Ranweli liegt an der Westküste eine Stunde vom Flughafen Colombo entfernt. Von hieraus kann man auch nach Negombo mit dem Tuk Tuk fahren zur Shopping-Tour auf dem Fischmarkt oder in den einheimischen Basar. Es ist ein guter Punkt, um Ausflüge ins Landesinnere zu unternehmen. Zimmer: Schöner großer Bungalow mit guter Ausstattung mit toller Atmosphäre. Die Betten sind in Ordnung und weich. Die Klimaanlage funktionierte tadellos und geräuscharm. Die Terrasse ist direkt zum Meer ausgerichtet und bietet ausreichenden Platz zum Relaxen und ggf. ein Gläschen Wein. Sonnenschirme und Platzierungen sind hier nicht notwendig. Ausreichend Platz ist unter dem Blätterdach Palmen gleich vor und neben der Terrasse zu finden. Essen & Trinken: Der Koch war sehr motiviert uns glücklich zu machen. Es gab europäische und lokale Kost. Auf Nachfrage auch ortsüblich scharf oder nicht "not spacy". Das Candle-Light-Dinner mit Lagerfeuer und Wahlessen war sehr toll und romantisch. Es gab alle lokalen Fischsorten, Hühnchen und Beef-Burger. Eigentlich ist für jeden etwas dabei. Service: Das Personal war immer sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Die Srilankesen sind sowieso das freundlichste Volk was wir kennen. Mehr braucht man hier nicht zu sagen zum Thema Service. Er war einfach hervorragend. Wir nutzten auch die Massageangebote im Hotel und waren sehr zu frieden und entspannt. Unser Reiseleiter Vorort Fernado Bazil kam täglich ins Hotel und war für uns zu jeder Zeit ansprechbar. Ausflüge wurden nach unseren Wüschen zusammengestellt. Vielen Dank Fernado und deinen Tourguide Amila. Dank an das Managerin und das Hotelteam. Atmosphäre: Viel Flora und Fauna, Natur und Tiere exklusiv mit Meeresrauschen. Keine Animation. Einfach super Auch das Nachtleben in den Strandbars von Negombo hat einen besonderen Flair, wenn man die Abwechselung sucht. Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis: Dieses Hotel Ranweli hat uns nicht enttäuscht. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist für uns in Ordnung. Bei Halbpension haben wir in 3 Wochen zu dritt ca. 700 $ ausgegeben. Bier, Wein, Softdrinks und Mittagssnaks haben hier seinen Preis. Wir haben uns das einfach gegönnt. Wir haben dieses Hotel Ranweli nun zum dritten mal besucht und werden es bestimmt wiederholen. Es bleibt weiterhin uns stiller Geheimtipp. Wie haben es bereits oft weiter empfohlen. Empfehlung vor der Tür: Bootsausflüge in die Flussarme und Mangroven oder eine Tour nach Negombo werden vom Olli angeboten. Er spricht gutes Deutsch. So bleibt auch das Geld bei den Einheimischen in der Region. Wir kommen wieder ... 😊 Bis bald

***Guests please beware to not get SCAMMED by hidden extra charges*** Our trip was ruined by policies that hotel manager used to scam us our of our money. We were not told truth and lost around $300 to sketchy extra charges that management imposed 1. Hotel manager was charging $50 dollars for a credit card payment saying it's a charge from Visa/Mastercard. We checked with those card companies and they don't charge for using them, it's clear that hotel was getting this extra cash. 2. Every drink ordered had non optionary 20% tip, which was also failed to mention to guests 3. Instead of being charged $25 for all inclusive per day we were charged $35, additionally manager used their own made up foreign currency exchange, which results in losing 1/3 of your original currency worth, e.g. if normally $1 is around 300 rupees, the hotel would only give you around 200 rupees. Because of all this we were charged 2 times more for all inclusive package than we were told and lost almost $300 dollars 4. Manager informed us that the closest shop and restaurant is 40 minutes away from the hotel so we would buy all inclusive package. Only after we paid and gained access to wifi we checked that there is Antonio's restaurant and shop 3 minutes away from the hotel, on the other side of the river Overall we are very dissatisfied how hotel management takes advantage of their guests
