I stayed at Mad Monkey Kings Cross for 18 nights with my sister. During our stay, we discovered a severe cockroach infestation in our room on January 1st, with nearly 40 cockroaches found in the room, bathroom, and even in the beds. We also noticed cockroaches in the shared kitchen area. This resulted in some guests having weird rashes on their bodies and other unexplained illnesses. The hostel staff was unhelpful and failed to resolve the issue despite multiple requests for a deep clean. The A/C unit was broken, creating a damp environment that worsened the situation. We were forced to find emergency accommodation due to the unsanitary conditions. I’ve requested a full refund of, minus the deposit already refunded, but have yet to receive a response from management. I’ve also submitted a complaint to Hostelworld. No one should stay here. This experience was not only disappointing but a serious health risk. I would highly advise against booking this hostel.

Comfy beds, showers kept clean, friendly & helpful staff 😊 Perfect location for transport services & also near supermarket. Activities/food provided from hostel on evenings. Comfy chill out room with TV screen & courtyard with benches.

This place is very mixed for us. In terms of people, everyone is very friendly and it felt quite social which is what we were ideally looking for, however, after walking up the few flights of stairs to reception, we quickly discovered this isn’t what we expected. You could tell straight away that everyone had been staying there awhile and most people already knew each other which is fine just not what we had expected. The biggest fault is the one toilet per floor which does not flush properly which is a big anxiety of mine. Not IBS friendly. Overall, we did have a good night out with everyone there and did provide free booze for the social nights so can’t complain about that.

There is no night security. There was a loud party all night long and litter all over the street in the morning. If you are looking for a clean and restful place to sleep, then keep looking. You can likely expect to be kept up all night with loud music, drunk kids. The place is basically a homeless shelter.

I absolutely loved staying here, i stayed for a night, travelled the east coast and came back to be long term. The staff are the best, so friendly, so social and they just make such a lovely environment. Events every night, so meeting people is so easy going. Would recommend.

Great hostel! Lovely staff! Would totally recommend it! You have your own bathroom in the room and nice activities every day. It is very social and has a good location with loads of restaurants and grocery stores close by. I will definitely come here again!

This has been my favorite hostel so far! The rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, common areas are all clean. The set up of the hostel is inviting and comfortable. The staff are really friendly and helpful too! It’s a great vibe and very social environment. Also nice to be in walking distance of everything you need. Definitely will be staying here again when I come back to Sydney.
