Cascada Thermal Springs & Hotel

It was an exceptional experience! The staff treated us like family, the ambiance was not like anything I’ve ever seen, which generated a mood of calmness.. We felt like we were in a good dream when we arrived. We met other people there who were traveling and each shared our joy and happiness with the spaces. Such an exquisite experience!

I had a very disappointing stay at the Cascada Hotel. While the property has potential, it’s plagued by operational challenges and rigid policies that made for a truly unpleasant experience. The staff appeared to be doing their best, but the overall service was poor. I’ve never been told “no” more times at any hotel. The spa—arguably the main attraction—is overly restricted, costs hotel guests $50 for a 2.5-hour window, and enforces silence with a bell that’s rung if you speak. When I asked for a robe (having not brought mine from the room), I was scolded. A tour of the spa? Denied. Yet somehow, ringing a bell next to guests’ ears is acceptable. The restaurant experience was equally frustrating. When we arrived at check-in time, it was closed. That evening, we were told it was fully booked, despite half the tables sitting empty at 8 p.m. (I’ve included photos). You’re also given multiple wristbands and keys—one for your room, another for the spa. The rules are excessive and off-putting, and even simple requests are met with resistance. To top it off, we had no hot water in our room for two days—ironic, given the hotel’s premium pricing for hot springs access. Housekeeping rarely came before 4pm unless prompted. I’d recommend this hotel only to those seeking a remote, overpriced property with endless rules, poor service, unreliable amenities, and a dining experience that’s better pursued elsewhere. Unless you’re hoping to reenact The Handmaid’s Tale, I’d strongly suggest staying elsewhere.

I have a few observations to share about this hotel. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The issues I had with this hotel is that there really isn't an area for guests to sit outside, such as a patio or pool area or even a nice, indoor area with comfortable chairs. The rooms do not have balconies. The pool that is pictured is only able to be used during your three-hour scheduled thermal spa time (which is an extra fee). The picture of the pool on their site makes it appear that it is an area that can be used by all hotel guests. It should be stated clearly that the pool is not able to be accessed by hotel guests other than during your spa reservation time. There was really no where to go other than the lobby that consisted of benches and tables in a tiered setting and my room. The mattress, in my opinion, was not luxurious or very comfortable for a brand new hotel. There is only one chair at the desk to sit on. The headboard has a lit up panel on each side to operate the lights and curtains above a teeny, tiny shelf that might fit a bottle of water. Cool idea except when you want it to be dark when you go to sleep! The bathroom sink top has very little space to set any toiletries. The TV only had 20 local channels with old reruns. But - there is a large refrigerator and freezer, small dishwasher and washer and dryer!! There is also a nice weight room and cardio room. The area where this hotel is located is rather run down so a hotel in this price range seems oddly located in this area.

My only thing suggestion is room service. It would have been so nice to have some options for food with the kids. Or to be able to send up a pot of coffee in the morning.

Did a staycation here and loved it. We went to the thermal springs, got a facial, took a group fitness class and ate at Terra Mae, so I’d say we got to experience almost all the hotel had to offer. The spa experience is first rate here in Portland. The staff were welcoming, the facilities felt luxurious, and the service was great. The room was also nice although a little overly tech-reliant. It was cool to figure out the curtains were button operated and the stove was an invisible induction one, but not everything was intuitive or user friendly. I’m only sharing this as it was the only gripe we had about the place. The wristband keys were very useful to go to all parts of the hotel. Alberta is fun but as locals we come to the street often, but it is great you can walk to all along the neighborhood. We have two little kids and didn’t bring them and we’re glad to have left them home. The hotel is more adult oriented, Alberta’s a nice spot for families but kids can get bored without much to do inside the hotel. Overall, I enjoyed it much more than my spa experience at the Portland Ritz. I will be going to back to the Spa and will be recommending the hotel to my visitors from out of state.

Every part was amazing. The vibe, the kindness from all humans we interacted with, the smells, the layout of the room, the technology, the proximity to every type of dining and shopping. We are reset, relaxed and ready to go back to our busy lives. We loved the springs, our bodies loved them more. We are so grateful to have stayed and we will be back.
