Freestyle Resort Port Douglas

We stayed in a first floor apartment and it was very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed spending time in the pool and also sitting at our apartment verandah. The reception area was welcoming and there were lots of leaflets of tourist trips for the area. Ann was very welcoming and along with her husband looked after us very well. She booked us a Great Barrier Reef trip and had great local knowledge and advice. We would love to come again.

Excellent! The accommodation was comfortable, airy and well equipped. The balcony (overlooking the cleverly designed pool) provided a perfect place to eat and relax - accompanied by plenty of bird song. Above all Ann was incredibly helpful, knowledgeably making sure that we made the most of our time in Port Douglas and pointing out the best trips to meet our holiday ambitions.

Location is good but this property is poorly maintained. Only suitable for very short stay, for the money it is definitely not worth staying here longer. Looks ok on first impression but once you are in you start to notice just how awful this place really is. There are much nicer properties in Port Douglas to stay than here

We recently spent five nights at this apartment-hotel resort and, unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet the expectations we had based on its 4-star rating. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by a strong smell of damp and mould in the room, which lingered throughout our stay despite keeping the fans running at all times. The cupboards also had a musty odour that made it unpleasant to store anything inside. These issues made the space feel less fresh and inviting than we had hoped. The facilities were fairly standard, though we were surprised and disappointed to learn that no room service would be provided for the entire duration of our stay. While we understand that service levels vary, this felt below par for a property advertised at this level, especially when compared to other 4-star accommodations we’ve experienced in Australia. One important aspect to note is that this apartment-hotel is not particularly accessible. All the family rooms are located on the top (second) floor and can only be reached by stairs, as there is no elevator on the property. This was quite challenging for us, especially as we were travelling with a disabled family member and had to carry all of our luggage up and down multiple flights. Additionally, the window leading onto the balcony in our room would not lock, which raised some safety concerns, particularly as we were staying with children. These issues made our stay more difficult than anticipated and are worth considering for those with mobility needs or safety concerns. One of the biggest letdowns, however, was the interaction with the host. Initially, she seemed welcoming, but that changed when we asked for local recommendations. As first-time visitors to the area and country, we had a few questions about transport and nearby attractions. Rather than receiving helpful suggestions, we were met with dismissive comments and discouragement. She advised us several times to cancel our plans, saying transport would be very difficult to find — yet Ubers were readily available and arrived within minutes. Unfortunately, her responses came across as unnecessarily negative and condescending, making us feel uncomfortable about asking for basic guidance. It’s a shame, as the location itself is beautiful and has a lot to offer. With some improvements to the accommodation’s upkeep and a more hospitable approach from the host, this could have been a much more enjoyable and memorable experience.

We recently stayed at the Freestyle Resort for 4 nights. Anne the owner was very welcoming and helpful in giving directions and advice on things to see and do. The Freestyle is located on the main Road ( lined with beautiful palm trees) going into Port Douglas. It is within walking distance (flat) to the town where you will find lots of shops, bars, restaurants, the waterfront (boat trips) and Coles supermarket which is great as this property is a self catering apartment. 4 mile beach is only a few mins walk from the property , A must see. The apartment itself was great. We were on the first floor overlooking the beautiful pool. There are no lifts at this property. The apt had great air con, also fans in the bedroom and on the balcony. Free wi- fi. It was very well equipped with full fridge freezer, hob, microwave, dishwasher etc. Anne even supplied dishwasher powder and a starter pack of tea/coffee milk etc. Bathroom was lovely and had plenty of towels and toiletries. Im sure if I needed any more they were available. The balcony had a table, chairs and a clothes airer on it. I thoroughly enjoyed the pool and surrounding area. It was so restful with the beautiful plants and the sun loungers. There is a BBQ area here also for those who wish to use it. There are also self laundry facilities at the rear of the property at a charge of $4. Anne was also very helpful in confirming pick ups and organising our transfers for us as our Irish phones would not allow us to make calls. Lovely quiet apartment as described on website. Comfortable bed, kitchen with all required utilities. Great location, walking distance to beach, shops and restaurants. Anne was so helpful with recommendations on outings and company to use. Thank you, we had a lovely stay.
