We had a wonderful stay at the Talbot House and will definitely stay there again when we return. It is an historic place that has been well preserved. I highly recommend it.

Great for a family. Much more than just the museum
We visited for a quirky break while traveling from Disneyland to the UK. A family of for with a 5yo and 1yo, we staying in a room with bunkbeds. The beds were really comfortable with deep pillows.
Simon welcomed us at 9pm after a 3 hour drive and took the time to show us to our room and explain the hotel and amenities.
It is a very old building, so expect the odd creaking floorboard, but the upkeep was very well maintained.
The next day we went for a walk into the town centre, which was less than a minute along the road, where we found a local market. Fresh food, clothing and accessories. We also found a huge garden with a selection of garden games.

We verbleven met vier koppels een nacht in Talbot House, dit moet je doen als je interesse hebt in WOI en de tijd van toen op je tong wil smaken. Alles, maar ook alles is hier geschiedenis, je verblijft in authentieke kamers met uitstekende bedden. Alles is piekfijn en erg proper. Sanitair is gemeenschappelijk maar heel proper en voldoende aanwezig. De Britse gastheren zijn uniek en heel toegankelijk, vergeet niet een English Breakfast te bestellen. Tuin en museum zijn vrij te bezoeken. Je kan maximaal genieten van dit huis mits respect voor zijn geschiedenis en de medegasten. Hier kom je thuis en tot rust zoals meer dan honderd jaar geleden, wie een standaard toeristenhotel zoekt blijft hier bij voorkeur weg.

It is hard to put in to words. If you wish to feel at peace and, in some small part, to try and take yourself back over a century to a time and a set of circumstances that thankfully none of us can really comprehend, ie the lot of the soldiers of the Great War, then this is the place to do it. Talbot House is run by volunteers. They are all kind and helpful. The others that you will meet will have come from far and wide and will help you to appreciate how wonderful this sanctuary is. It falls to us all to support it and to keep it going.

Comfortabel en authentiek verblijf in heg charmante Poperinge. Leuke kamer in een stijlvol huis vol geschiedenis. Weliswaar met gedeeld sanitair maar dit voegt toe aan de huiselijke sfeer binnen het concept. De huisbewaarders waren echte britten en naast het verblijf kan je ook in het museum en de tentoonstelling terecht om meer te leren. Ook het personeel staat altijd klaar voor vragen.

I’ve been visiting Talbot House for many years now, and always wanted to experience an overnight stay. This finally became a reality in August when I stayed in the Vandewalle Room. Not only did I enjoy time to explore the historic house at leisure, but I spent a relaxed evening sitting in the garden, and a very tasty full English Breakfast the next morning. The room and facilities were excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend the House as the perfect stop for an overnight stay. I will be back!

We were in the Westhoek of Flanders for a few days to find out more about the First World War and this museum/former home for soldiers seemed like a good start. It was; extremely attractive, spacious garden to sit in (it was 33 degrees) and you can walk freely into the house and the adjacent museum. We had a room in the garden house, which was excellent, no remarks. You can help yourself to drinks, payable on a trust basis, buffet breakfast well stocked.
