We had booked 2 family rooms at Hotel Portland three months in advance, only to be told at check-in that our rooms weren’t available. The lame excuse? Other guests had extended their stay. This reeks of classic overbooking mismanagement. Instead of giving us rooms of equal capacity, they downgraded us to smaller rooms with fewer beds than we booked, and casually told us to use a floor mattress. Only after we pushed for either equivalent rooms or a discount, they reluctantly shifted us to a different hotel nearly a kilometre away, which wasn’t as centrally located. To top it off, they charged us 800 NPR for a “complementary” cake that we were never consulted about — no mention of flavour, cost, or consent. The bill just showed up at the new hotel. What’s even worse? They were in touch with me the day before arrival and never mentioned anything about the unavailability of rooms. Completely dishonest and disrespectful. This experience was frustrating, disappointing, and honestly, ruined a part of our trip. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Poor management, zero accountability, and a total lack of integrity.
