Sea Breezes Guest House

Zu zweit haben wir 2 Nächte hier verbracht. Das der See Seite abgewandt Zimmer war recht klein, aber sauber und hatte zudem den Vorteil, dass es trotz hoher Außentemperaturen abends recht kühl war. Gestört hat uns insbesondere ein sehr liebloser, teils auch ungepflegt wirkender Frühstücksraum, wobei auch die Außenanlagen keinen guten Eindruck hinterlassen haben. So war der Eingang zugestellt (durch Stühle und Blumenerde), auch waren die Außenpflanzen vertrocknet. Dies hatten wir zwei Jahre zuvor in einer völlig anderen Art und Weise kennen gelernt, die damalige Besitzerin hat auf solche Dinge auch sehr viel Wert gelegt und ich bin mir sicher, dass die guten Bewertungen überwiegend aus dieser Zeit stammen. Zusammenfassend findet sich bei einem durchschnittlichen Frühstück dennoch ein ordentliches Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis, insgesamt würde ich dieses Gästhaus aber nicht mehr als allenfalls durchschnittlich bezeichnen wollen.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay here. We communicated before our visit via email with Jenny and agreed we would let her know what time we expected to arrive as we were travelling from the Isle of Wight. We were greeted in person by Jenny who was wonderfully welcoming, immediately helping us organise parking. She was so thorough with information regarding where to eat, where the nearest shops where, places to go with the children. The room was spacious and clean, as was the entire property, the breakfasts that we ordered and were made each morning by Lee were absolutely delicious and my 8 year old was delighted by the freshly made apple juice each morning. We honestly felt like nothing was too much to ask for throughout our stay. Jenny and Lee you are doing a wonderful job and really made our place to stay a welcoming and comfortable spot. Thank you so much! We would 100% stay again on our next visit.

The photos on line are obviously from the old ownership. New ownership has a much different aesthetic with cheap plastic mismatched tablecloths, messy, dusty knickknacks, dusty fake flowers, half used roll of toilet paper on the landing, spilled potting soil and dirt all over the small landing. Nice couple that tries hard but has no real idea about how to manage a property for guests. It's like staying in someones messy family home. The smell in the property is awful, the cleanliness needs to be greatly improved. If you are looking for the quaint British Inn experience, this is not it. Photos are old and have no relevance to what the main areas of the place look like now. Clock in the room didn't work, paint drips were all over the mirror, I could go on and on..... avoid. wifi was complicated and didn't work well... It actually was an expensive stay for what it was.

When I came to review Sea Breezes, I was shocked to see it rated at 5 star. That was far from my experience. Firstly, there was no proper welcome. We had to call a mobile to ask the owners to let us in. When we were let in, the owner aggressively waved us into the breakfast area. It was dominated by a huge fish tank with three fish glumly swimming around. Decoré included glass dragons filled with some liquid or other. Neither the hall or the breakfast room had been hoovered recently. You have to choose breakfast from an itemised checklist the evening before. The bedroom was not tastefully decorated (obviously a matter of opinion) but table lamps with giraffes heads poking out was a bit odd. On first night there was a very strong air freshener which was clearly covering a “catty” smell. Bathroom: not particularly clean with a poor quality in-bath shower. Breakfast was not great. Floor also hadn’t been cleaned, with food debris on it. Positives: Sea Breezes is in a good location near the Hoe with sea views towards the left front.
