Gran Oasis Resort

This is an amazing hotel that we would highly recommend and would gladly return to. It's a beautiful resort built into the hillside and is super clean everywhere, even the pool bathrooms! Rooms: we had a two-bedroom suite right at the top of the resort which was a good size for five of us. Not super modern but comfortable with a nice balcony and kitchen which we didn't need but the fridge was useful. Staff: the staff are super polite, helpful and friendly. This applies to everyone you meet, housekeepers/reception/bar staff. They don't seem to skimp on staff to deliver quick service and keep the place super clean which makes a big difference. Entertainment: one of the standout things about this hotel is the entertainment team, Renate, Carlos and Shelby. In particular our kids really liked Shelby. There isn't a kids club as such but there are regular activities through the day and in the evening. The quality/organisation is superb. Mini disco is great at 2000 and then there at 2130 there were two acrobatic shows, a magician, two singers and VR headset night for the kids. One of the singers, a Tina Turner tribute was a bit karaoke-ish singing medleys but the others were great Bars: Taste bar outside reception was open from breakfast to 2300 (advertised as opening at 1100). The pool bar opened at 1100. Great drinks selection served in glass or plastic for by the pool. Quick service and rarely any queue. Restaurant: not the biggest selection but we enjoyed every meal and the themes each night help mix it up. The restaurant was calmer than many at an AI hotel and we rarely had to wait. The staff work super hard to collect plates and replenish food. The BBQ by the pool one lunchtime was nice. The snack bar was fine but we only used it once. Nice touch for staff to bring fruit round the pool, kiwi fruit are amazing and can be eaten skin on. Location: about 30 minutes from the airport. Bit out of town and takes about 30 mins with small kids to get to either Los Christianos or Playa De Las Americas. There is a bus to Playa at 1110 returning at 1645 and also Siam Park at 0930 returning at 1700. There are a lot of steps which didn't bother us but could be more of a problem with reduced mobility. Pools: there are three heated pools (one for kids) and a separate small splash park at the top of the resort. Our kids preferred the big pool which is where we spent most of our time.

We last visited the Gran Oasis in Sept 2014. Both children were toddlers then, so the pools and onsite entertainment were ideal. Returned last week, with the same expectations - but this time with a 12 and 11 year old….. Firstly - the 2 bed apartment with rooftop solarium access, is just as I remember. Spacious and comfy. Only downside this time round, was the smell from the en suite bathroom. It wasn’t nice at all. Cleaned daily though and the cleaners are all very courteous and friendly. We went bed and breakfast and upgraded to all inclusive for one of the days. Breakfast is plentiful. Usual continental as well as porridge. Sausage, Bacon, Beans and Egg (Boiled, Fried, Scrambled and also the best omelettes) Should try the Herby Tomatoes and the mini spicy sausages too. Great wee touch! There’s also the European take on breakfast too - like green beans and cauliflower. Never tried it, but it’s there. Pancakes aplenty. Only complaints are that the coffee machines - on more than one occasion, were only running hot water, and the children like milk but it’s the UHT stuff here, so they didn’t have cereal the full week. All inclusive gave us access to food and drink all day, although after 6pm - there’s no access to snacks - only dinner up until 9pm. If you are staying onsite the full week - from my own experience, I would def recommend going all inclusive. Makes sense financially, as paying for food and drink as you go, can become pretty expensive. Please note that the only place that cash is accepted is either the onsite shop or reception. If you don’t have a card, you can run up a bill of up to 300 euros and then pay the bill at reception. There is an onsite shop - only open until 6 every night except Fri, where it’s open until 8 - which proved rather painful when my daughter wanted an ice cream after 6pm. Please note that the shop is VERY limited with its selection of food - if you are b&b only: Pizza, Spag Bol, Carbonara n Lasagne are what’s on offer from the freezer, as well as a selection of cooked meats - none of which my children like. Shopkeeper picks and chooses when to shut up shop too - on more than a few occasions over the week - I popped down to get some essentials and the shutters were down. Nightly entertainment is also a mixed bag - soco bate vira at the kids nightly disco is rather dated after nearly 20yrs since its first release. Watching the kids take an unintentional swing for one another though, with the VR headsets on - was rather amusing. 2 great sized pools in the main complex and an aqua splash for kids up to the age of 11 - at the top of the hill. Towels were placed on the sunbeds daily - by those anally retentive guests that like the same spot, in the same place, at the same time - every day - even though the resort kindly asks patrons not to do this. We have just returned from our fifth visit to Gran Oasis and had a wonderful time as always. We first came in February 2020 and have returned every year, apart from 2021, only because we were prevented by Covid. The resort has a "Be Happy" ethos and the team go out of their way to make sure guests remain happy. Rooms and grounds are kept clean, pools are heated, food is good and varied, and entertainment is great, and the arcade offers pool and pinball, as well as table tennis just outside. Our son particularly enjoys the foam party!

I tried to figure out how this place had a rating over 4.5 and I realised this. If you’re used to quality hotels if four stars and above this place is definitely not for you. If you read the Sun or Daily Mail and work as a labourer on a building site or drive a white van delivering packages then this place will most likely be amazing. It was unclean and very out dated and felt like something like a Spanish Butlins. Honest avoid if you’re looking for a hotel with any form of luxury.

I returned to this hotel as I was blown away last time- the cleaners were lovely and would always stop to say Hola to my children and in return my daughters would go out their way to say good morning. They work tirelessly and I don't think we give cleaners enough credit for the work they do I was in room 146 and every day my room was spotless, beds done and I never had a worry about my belongings. Chefs and waiters work so hard everyday at every meal always with smiles across their faces no matter how tired and hot it was. They have done a lot of work at the hotel since my last visit like the kids splash pools and the spa; it's nice they are using the money made from people's visits to upgrade. So why my 1 less star than my last visit? Our room had several lights not working. Also after 3 of us had showers (no matter how quick we were) the shower would be quite cool, not freezing but cool enough to hurry - usually my poor husband would draw the short straw on that. Also just a suggestion- the books people leave, instead of throwing them away couldn't the hotel have a small bookcase where people could help themselves to or even swap ? I was absolutely mortified watching a book be thrown away. Other than my very small issues in the room we had a fantastic stay, we would return again as it's close enough to the beach and main shops (€7 in a taxi) but far enough so it's quiet in the evening.

The hotel was very clean, the staff were very hard working and always happy, we found no issues with staff at all. The two bedroom family suite was lovely. The whole place is like its own little village of properties. Valentine’s Day they presented the hotel very nice with hearts and balloons. The food was good and plenty of it. The whole experience was really really nice and I would definitely stay there again. The hotel is well positioned for us, about 1.5 miles 25 minute walk to the centre or a taxi from the end of the road about 7 euro. if you have disability walking then you would have to ask about room position, there are ramps to all rooms so all accessible for chairs but still up hill a little, and the hotel is on a hill for the last 200metres of your walk back to it. But thanks Gran Oasis we really enjoyed our little 5 day break.
