Sandos Papagayo

After an awful holiday last year at another hotel in Playa Blanca we needed this to be a good holiday. And wow did it deliver. We had 2 rooms which were both spotlessly clean, had everything you needed and items were topped up as required.. eg soap, shower gel, clean towels. We booked standard AI and didn't upgrade to Royal Elite for us AI covered ot all. Food a plenty with lots of options to suit everyone. A plus for us they had Pepsi max rather than coke zero 😁 Location is remote but for us this was perfect, we like to walk. The hotel do provide a shuttle bus if you need it. We tried the local bus service. Caught a bus to Flamingo beach and walked back. Easy to use as its €1.40 flat fares. Entertainment was good, various acts. The in house team were excellent and very enthusiastic. Each and every member of staff we came across were happy and helpful. Not a grumpy one in sight which is rare. Clearly they all enjoy their jobs. We had such a wonderful week and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in a lovely location at the end of the coastal path which takes you all the way into Playa Blanca marina and beyond. In the other direction, if you leave the hotel through the main door and head past the tennis courts through the ally, you can get to Popagayo beach in 10 mins, which is well worth a visit. Overall, I’d say the hotel is a 4 star, just about! There are parts of the hotel which are looking a little tired, including parts of our room. We were in A306 and the view from the balcony is lovely. In the bathroom, parts of the shower/bath screen was falling apart and the chrome soap dish was covered in rust and the water pressure was average at best. The flooring throughout the room was also looking a bit tired. None of it really anything to worry about, but was worth mentioning in a review. We paid the extra for Royal Elite wristbands and I would do the same should be go back. The food was good all week, lots of variations for every meal. The snack bar served the same food all day, everyday but it serves a purpose and when we did have something from there, it was all decent food. Royal Elite wristbands get brand named alcohol, a separate restaurant for breakfast and dinner plus a couple of Royal Elite bars where you access with your room key and serve yourself to all alcohol available. Entertainment was average at best, one night we had an actual band with actual instruments and they were superb. The adults only bar had a violinist, a pianist and a saxophonist and what we saw of those was superb. The heated pool was still cold, although not as cold as the rest of the pools! The spa area was ok, two of the 3 jacuzzi’s were working and both were warm. Lots of sunbeds looking a bit tired and somewhat dirty, but all fully useable. There are lots of areas to sunbathe, some much quieter than others and the adults only area is quite popular! We did the Timanfaya half day tour which was fascinating, we also did the half day Teguise Market tour and that was also excellent. We would recommend both. There is a lovely market at Playa Blanca marina on a Saturday and Wednesday, 10:00 til 14:00. Takes about 20 mins to walk along the co, dtal path and lots of places to grab coffee, ice cream, milkshakes or food dotted all around the marina. Overall, we would recommend the hotel and would go back. Value for money was good, location superb and although a bit tired in places, we had a great stay.

My husband was painfully electrocuted by a Table lamp (with exposed bare live wires) in the room when we stayed in December 24 - we have stayed at this hotel over 20 times and know it well. We have always had a good holiday, however our stay at Christmas will be our last. The hotel management and Sandos group accused us of lying about the electrocution, despite reporting it immediately, and submitting the photographic and medical evidence. My husband still has a scar on his hand from the burn. What could have happened if a young child or infirm elderly person had suffered injury? despite contacting the hotel multiple times, we have received no apology, no recompense and no acknowledgement that the room was essentially dangerous. This also includes Jet2 who have also been woeful with their customer service. The hotel is obviously at fault but would prefer to lie and call us liars. SHAMEFUL on all fronts. I was going to write about the dirty hotel, mould in food and cockroaches but the photo gallery below speaks for itself. Do enjoy the photo of the mould in the sausage - that was a highlight. AVOID

Came to this hotel for a three night break. Our first impressions were it was in a lovely location and the hotel was probably fantastic when new but needs a little bit of tlc and upgrading. The room was ok, with a lovely view of the pool and beach. The bed was comfortable but the pillows are awful, rock hard and lumpy. Milk in room was not replaced. The pool area is lovely, we always managed to find a bed in the sun. The worst part of the hotel is the food. The first night there only seemed to be three ‘main’ course options. An over cooked joint, fish in a sauce which was hard and a veal stew which was ok. Went to have cheese and biscuits for dessert but no biscuits left. There were no made up salads and not a lot of vegetables. The next night was slightly better, but it depended on timing, I got a steak, quite overcooked and dry but my family had there’s cooked to taste! Breakfast was pretty awful with bacon so over cooked you couldn’t get your knife through it, I found the evening entertaining was very intrusive, the mics were turned up so loudly that we had to go else where. We wouldn’t recommend it and won’t come back to this hotel but will definitely come to the area again

Just back from an wonderful 2nd stay. Amazing views, clean, spacious room, fabulous food , and loved walking along the coastal path to the marina and Playa Blanca. Went Royal Elite which we think is worth it. Pools good. Did struggle to get a sun bed in the afternoon, having been out in the morning, but eventually managed. Staff all lovely. Will definitely return.
