Pictou Lodge Beach Resort

Rating maybe down to individual taste, there was a lot to like about this place but we’re not particularly into the rustic scene so log cabins don’t particularly float our boat. It was however a good place to spend one night on the way to PEI. Greeting was friendly but the entrance to the cabin left a lot to be desired, the paint work was all very badly chipped and a bit grubby, the general impression created by the veranda was not very good. Walking in, the kitchen looked past it’s prime as well. However, the bed was very comfortable and the bedroom itself was much better than the rest of the cabin. The weather was good so we had arrived early with the idea of sitting in the sun and relaxing and this is exactly what we did. Lovely chairs sitting looking out to sea, perfect. We ate at the restaurant and had a really good meal, nicely served, tasty, not overpriced and with a terrific view.

We have stayed at the lodge before on a few occasions and the individual log cabins have always been rustic but livable and acceptable. It’s been about two or three years and today we checked in and went to our single room log cabin. IT WAS HORRIFIC ! Upon entering we realized that the rustic description had now turned into seriously deteriorated . It was terrible. The faux leather couch is badly worn and should be at the city dump. The odour reminded me of an old church basement. We immediately went back to the lobby and canceled our stay. Why have they allowed this to happen ? Their prices are not cheap. People should get better than this. That’s it for us at the lodge. We have wonderful memories of the past but it’s all over now. Goodbye Pictou Lodge. We’ll not be back until you renovate

We wanted a quick getaway for a special anniversary. This resort is very popular this season and my husband checked in regularly for vacancies. He found an opportunity and away we went. We had dined here prior, but this was our first overnight stay. My expectations were not high and I was pleasantly surprised how nice our little "cottage" was. The rooms are very clean and kept up very well. We had an Oceanview queen with separate bedroom. The gardens in front of each unit were a very nice touch, as was the cute little porch with chairs overlooking the ocean. We loved the location and the weather cooperated enough that we enjoyed the salt water pool, strolling the beach and enjoying the sunset from the comfortable patio just off the dining room. Dinner was great and staff at the restaurant went over and above to accommodate our dietary needs. My favourite part was watching the seabirds and the seals popping up their heads. Bring your binoculars. I look forward to our next visit.

This week was the first time that I have even been to this "resort". Calling it a resort is quit a stretch and we had way too many issues. The food was ok, main restaurant menu was way too expensive for what I would consider a very easy and unremarkable choice of dishes. Location is really nice and they have different activities for kids which was decent. Pull out couch bed sheets were dirty and not changed, gross, had to plug in alarm clock for some reason, A\C was only in the main living room so the bedrooms were hot to sleep in which was super annoying so I had to ask for a fan. Our BBQ was super old, I was lucky I got it started and if I wasn't intelligent enough to bring matches I wouldn't have even been able to use it at all. Knobs from cupboards fell off and injured my foot, my son was injured on one of the bikes because the chain fell off while he was riding down a hill and fell off which leads me to believe that they are never checked or maintained for safety. The walls and floors have absolutely no insulation so if someone is walking upstairs, even a dog, you are going to hear every step which is especially annoying when you are trying to sleep. The kitchen is decently equipped but for a suite that is listed to sleep 8 people, a 2 slice toaster is not big enough in the morning and the coffee they provide is terrible. Also, the doors to the suites are not ***** proof so if you leave your key inside you are locked out. We also had issues with lamps not working and the cable so overall, these problems are way too much plus they were not going to refund the deposit from weeks ago and I had to request a manager for that to be credited to my room which should not have happened.

Our group of 4 (including family from Alberta) had a fantastic meal in the dining room. Although it was only the second day open after the winter season, the staff were very attentive and professional. All the meals were delicious! The brussel sprout salad was flavorful and very well presented, as were the crab cakes!! All the seafood dishes including fish and chips, mussels and seafood al fredo were excellent. One member of the party required a gluten free meal, and the chef made a delicious version of the catch of the day with oil, lemon etc. We think it should be added to the menu!! The whole experience was a 10/10!!!
