Exotic Fishing Thailand

This is described as a Premium Fishing Resort - it's definitely not premium and is definitely not well looked after as stated. POSITIVES: Surrounded by beautiful mountains. Massive lake. Staff in the restaurant / kitchen are absolutely amazing and can not do enough for you. NEGATIVES: Website states oversize sala Inc sun loungers, bamboo furniture, and electric fan. These were absolutely filthy to the extent that you wouldn't want to use the furniture. Resort facilities apparently include a swim up bar as advertised on the website and a unique swimquarium. We asked the owner and the swim up bar hasn't been open for the past 3 years (pre covid) although it is still showing on the website and the signs around the pool state the opening hours of the bar. The swimquarium is certainly unique as in you can't see a thing because the water is so dirty / murky. Website quotes a full service bar and restaurant. There is NO bar. The small "bar" is obviously being used as an office area with photocopier etc. The so called full service bar is a fridge!! We did an 8 day package and it states American breakfast included, this consisted of a choice of 2 sausage OR bacon (not both), 2 eggs and two pieces of toast. You are not even given a tea/ coffee. You have to pay extra for a hot drink. Considering we paid approximately £1600 (excluding flights) for the 8 day package to stay here, we expected better. The resort is advertised with "endless things to do right on the EFT doorstep, making EFT the perfect venue for both anglers and non anglers alike. It's not !!!! There is nothing to do on site. Even in the evening there is nowhere to relax. And the last orders for food are 8.30pm. There is absolutely nothing in the local vicinity. And when we asked the owner what there was to do locally, he informed us that we would have to travel about an hour and a half at least. The resort says it offers single day fishing to extended resort stays for single anglers, couples and families. I wouldn't recommend staying here for more than a day or two, then move on. And I definitely wouldn't recommend this area for couples / families.

Hopefully this review will be taken as constructive feedback as it is intended. The location of the lake is in a very scenic area with lovely views of the mountains, and with the exception of the quarry blast once a day a couple of miles away, it is a very quiet area indeed. The taxi transfer from the airport to the resort was lovely and of a high standard. Our baggage was initially lost during the trip but the taxi waited for us with no issues, which was very well received. Once we arrived at the resort, the staff kindly provided us with a fresh cup of tea, which was very much needed. The room itself (Mountain View room) was nicely laid out and nice decor. It had ample room with a king size bed, sofa and two seats, large TV (although only found two or three channels that were English) and walk in shower. Towels for the room and towels for the fishing hut were provided but whilst clean the white towels had quite a few stains on them. The room has a fridge which is topped up every day with a selection of chargeable beers and soft drinks which are reasonably priced. The fishing lake is well maintained and they clearly look after the fish. There are 15 pegs each with a shelter/hut that offer shade from the sun and have a electric fan. The white furniture itself is adequate but could do with a proper clean (not very white at all…). The fishing equipment is of a high standard and the staff that support you during the day help as needed. We had three different on-site support staff during the week and with the exception of ‘Rambo’, were friendly and helpful - have google translate handy. I caught a good selection of fish the first two days but then it went a bit quiet for the remaining two days but that’s fishing for you. The kitchen staff are amazing and do the place justice - their prepared lunch/evening food (selection of English and Thai available) was lovely and expertly prepared. The included ‘American’ breakfast in the rate is basic and limited items, for example, sausage or bacon and no tea or coffee included - that’s extra for £1.50/£2. Not technically an American breakfast. The restaurant is actually combined with the reception, and overlooks the lake which is nice. I saw Mike on the first day first thing in the morning and was pleasant to talk to and helped with our luggage issue. Unfortunately, we didn’t see Mike again until late on the last day by default which was a shame as he obviously has a great amount of knowledge about the local area, but he had hired a new fishing manager ‘James’ that week, which took care of us on a daily basis. I’m sure this is the norm for all fishing holidays, but in terms of the bait allocation provided, isn’t a great amount, especially as the small fish in the lake strip it to pieces immediately, so be prepared to buy way more bait. A great 2 days fishing, although hard fishing most of the time during my trip. You cannot argue the place is set in stunning surroundings and the complex is very well looked after. Only 2 negatives from me, the bed was very hard and difficult to sleep on, and my guide (Rambo) didn’t talk or engage in any conversation for 2 days. I think someone should advise him to make more of an effort in engaging with customers to feel valued. Mike the owner was also very welcoming and a lovely guy.

Another excellent trip to EFT,visited for 3 days mid February.Excellent in every aspect as usual. PB Red tail at 66lb. 1st Arapima and 2nd…not the monsters,but 77lb and 66lb,very happy with them. To top it off Chao Phraya at 121 lb Probably will never better that fish. Special mention to Boy my guide for 3 days, he really works hard to get you fish and such a nice man, couldn’t fault him. Food,service,rooms all 1st class.

Awesome venue, awesome location, awesome staff and awesome accommodation and hospitality… what more is there to say ? Oh yeah .. awesome fishing 😎 We caught well over 60 fish between two of us and around 12 different species from rip saw catfish to juliens golden carp. There’s some huge Siamese carp in here and I had one at around 130lbs !! Huge Arapaima, huge Mekong’s and much more. The food is fantastic and I’m a bit of a fussy eater while I’m abroad. They cater for everyone imo. The apartments are kept clean and tidy and have a great air conditioning system. Plenty fresh towels etc etc. The guides are really pleasant and do as much or as little as you require and their knowledge of the pond is unbelievable. If you love fishing this place is not to be missed. Thank you to Mike and all the staff for making our stay so memorable we can’t thank them enough.
