We had an exceptional experience at this wonderful hotel. The manager and her team were incredibly warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met. A very disappointing experience. Firstly , the positives: this is a beautiful, atmospheric property, with lovely gardens and huge potential. Manager Apostolita and her team, Demetrius, Yiannis, and Yiannisis are a warm, enthusiastic team. Arriving to be told that the pool was unusable, and turned out to be unusable for all of our 4 day stay resulted in a 4 km daily round trip to Mahendra beach to swim. All uphill on way back. There was bad, and ultimately no WiFi in our room ( 105) No bar, a limited menu for 2 hours in the evening, no lunch available. This is certainly not “ a luxury “ establishment. Yes, we could have asked for napkins…and plates at breakfast. Yes, we could have mentioned that we hadn’t been left shower gel after day 2. No instructions in the room for how to work the safe, or the aircon. The point of a “ Luxury” establishment is that everything is anticipated, the guest can relax and know that everything is in hand. We shouldn’t have had to be chasing up things. At Torre e Merli, there is an absence of attention to detail in too many areas. Had this not been prepaid, we should have left after day one.

So nearly a lovely boutique hotel. The room we stayed in was comfortable, clean and authentically furnished. Stella the receptionist was delightful and very welcoming. The reason I haven’t given top marks was due to the lack of attention to detail. We had no glasses in the room and despite asking for some none arrived. The bed was made but nothing else had been cleaned. The towels could have been folded and the empty shampoo bottles cleared from the shower room. We asked for two glasses of wine but they never arrived, The breakfast was nice but not special and we ate in the hotel our first night which was a big mistake. Apart from the Greek salad everything else was really not good. I was recommended the garlic pasta and the squid with lentils but I would not advise eating. This hotel is in a lovely position close to one of the main beaches with a great beach bar but it fell short of a good review purely from the attention to detail.

Lovely place in the hills, staff are very helpful & friendly. Previous reviews are spot on, particularly the one about an easy walk downhill to Lakka but walk back is up hill (mind it’s only 22mins).

I wanted to write about the reality in this place, as all the information on their website is completely misleading. This was my first time in Paxoi; my husband had been there in the past, and we stayed in the hotel for 11 nights. Despite the website portraying itself as a 5-star boutique hotel, in reality is more like a bed & breakfast. The building and the garden are beautiful, and for me, these are the only two positive aspects of this place. However, the rooms are dirty. Our room, in particular, was very dirty. Dust was everywhere; you could run your finger along surfaces, and it would turn black. The rubbish bin was filled with things that weren't ours, and there were dirt spots on the bedsheets and the couch. I understand that the rooms may be old, but it seems like nobody really wants to take good care of the place. Many things in the room were damaged. We did complain about the cleanliness of the room, and it did improve the next day, but there was still a lot of dust. I had to point out areas to the cleaning staff where dust remained. It appeared that the manager was unable to see it. For instance, the rack where you hang your towels was utterly filthy, and he cleaned it the next day. The cleaning staff have 7 hours to clean 9 rooms, some of which are quite large. It might be more reasonable to provide them with more time to ensure proper cleanliness, especially when new guests arrive. All the services they advertise on their website don't seem to exist. There are no cocktails, lunch, or dinner. They claim this was the case because it was end of the season, but I've read reviews from throughout the year, and many people have complained about this. The breakfast is not a buffet; it's à la carte. That's fine, but they claim it's all fresh, which is not true. Except for the eggs and fruits, everything else is ultra-processed, and nothing is homemade. There's an excellent bakery just 5 minutes away, and yet they purchase this horrible ultra-processed bread from the supermarket. The typical white sandwich bread that you can find in any supermarket. Even the spanakopita, cakes, etc., are from the supermarket and of really poor quality. All of them appear to be frozen or ultra-processed, which is not what you'd expect from a supposed 5-star hotel. There's a staff member at breakfast named George who tries to be funny but comes off as too much. He made a political joke that I found inappropriate and offensive, and I asked him to stop talking about this. However, he started shouting at me. I never returned to the breakfast area during my 11-night stay. This is not the kind of behaviour one would expect from a 5-star hotel. First, you don't make certain jokes to people you don't know because they may not want to hear certain things, and when you ask someone to stop talking about a subject, they shouldn't shout at you. From the information on the hotel website this hotel looked exactly what we were looking for. Wonderful grounds, good food , peaceful location. However when we arrived we were told the only food that was available was breakfast which we would need to pre- order the night before. There was no restaurant, no bar, no opportunity to have a snack during the day which was not what we were expecting for a 5*hotel and certainly this was not as advertised. There was no apology from the manager, just the chef had to leave earlier than expected. Whilst there were restaurants 1 km away in the delightful port of Lakka, it was down a very steep hill with no pavement or street lights- fine going down - not so great coming back up! The staff were in the main superb- very friendly and helpful, particularly during a thunderstorm when the water poured into our room in the evening, but there was no apology from the manager the next day. The waiter, chef and cleaner however were wonderful. We paid a lot of money for the 6 nights we stayed here- very poor value for money and definitely not the place to stay without transport. Yes the grounds were lovely; rooms spacious - this however did not compensate for the lack of services advertised. If we had booked with a tour company we would have asked to be moved, unfortunately we booked directly with the hotel.
