We are walking from Calais Maine to Key west Florida, generally along route US1. We walk two weeks at a time and then drive home (Cincinnati, Ohio) til we have time to return. Since we are not the roughing-it hiking type people and since I am a Marriott platinum member we always try to stay at a Marriott if one is available. We are in transit right now to Where we left off in Freeport Maine and stopped last night at the Fairfield, State College inn on our way. We had a terrific guy at the front desk last night who told us that he loved his job and meets all kinds of interesting people. He was such a breath of fresh air that we decided we should be reviewing the Marriott’s in which we stay. So, here is of our first review. The State College Fairfield Inn had all the ingredients of a perfect stay, extra friendly, staff, immaculately clean rooms, very comfortable beds, and a heating/cooling unit the actually works. Since we are 82and 71, respectively, the stay was affordable. Topped off was a tasty breakfast. My need to say something negative is that the oatmeal was in premixed containers that you mix yourself not cooked up in a pot. Thank you State College Fairfield.

In town to visit PSU, the Fairfield Inn was a perfect place to call 'home' for the night. The room was clean. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom, very spacious. There's lots of free parking on site and there are several restaurants within a short walk. Finally, it's super convenient since it's a 5-10 min. drive to the campus and just off route 99.

Carpet and bedding smelled like teenage boy sweaty athletic gear. We were thinking that it was just the initial impression and hopefully just the carpet but when we went to bed, we noticed that the bedding smelled equally sour. The hotel appeared clean overall but the pungent smell in the room ruined the stay.

The Fairfield Inn at State College is merely an average hotel, nothing more. Booked a King Sized bed for 2 nights during Arts Fest in July. Per my usual beef with king sized beds, why doesn't a hotel offer KING SIZED PILLOWS for a king sized bed?!!! I'm paying more for a King, so give me more! No, they provide you the same scrawny, crappy pillows as you'd get with a pull-out. It's downright ridiculous. Otherwise, housekeeping failed to remove used washrags from the shower stall when they serviced the room, and provided just 3 bath towels for 2 adults for a 2-night stay. ***? Breakfast was pretty decent, I'll say that much - but that's about it.

Flight cancellation til the AM: wasn't too fussy but should have been. DO NOT STAY HERE. It is a food desert. There is constant airline traffic over your head and a view of construction equipment out the window. The elevator shakes badly as it moves up and down and you cannot get food delivery from their carry out menus left in the rooms: after 1 hr 45 minutes the driver had an issue and my food did not arrive. I am desperate to leave here ASAP and am horrified that I am paying 395.94 for this!

The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful! We only stayed 1 night but if we ever need a hotel in the area again, we will definitely go back! They were doing construction on part of the building while we were there, but they informed us at the desk about it and the noise from our room wasn’t all that noticeable. The front desk staff was very friendly and I can’t say enough about how clean everything was, from the lobby to the elevators to the actual room.

We have stayed at many Fairfield inns and were disappointed this time. No gluten free options at breakfast. First room had a strong perfume smell -didn’t disappear with window open after an hour so we were able to switch rooms. At bedtime, we noticed one of the pillows had a blood stain on it -pillowcase and pillow. We changed it with the front desk in the morning as I didn’t want to do it at 10pm. Wondering how well room was cleaned. Business area -where computers are -is poorly designed. Large monitor screen faces the whole breakfast/lobby area so anyone in the room could read my screen -had to enter my credit card in to add baggage for flight -was uncomfortable with monitor facing room. Other Fairfield inns have computers monitors facing wall/in a quiet area/corner not out in the open. Previous Fairfield inn sent us receipt and survey within 24 hours of check out (near Pittsburg). This one didn’t email receipt or survey -perhaps knew we weren’t happy. Credit card wasn’t charged until 5 days later. Just wasn’t up to the usual standards we have seen.

We just spent one night at this hotel while passing through the State College area on our way to VT. Overall, our stay was great from start to end. When we checked in, we got the warmest welcome from Olivia at the front desk. She was super super kind and assigned us two connecting rooms up on the 3rd floor. (Rooms 324 and 326) However, when we walked into one of the rooms, (326) we were greeted by a stale smoke smell. We then asked to switch rooms. Long story short, we moved to rooms 310 and 312. (Both rooms have 2 doubles) Overall both those rooms were extremely clean. There were no hidden smells or odors whatsoever. However the rooms here overall could use some updating. The decor came straight from the mid-80’s. The beds were extremely comfortable, we all slept extremely well. They were not too firm, not too soft. A good in between. We were impressed! Would we stay here again? The answer is yes. I would recommend this place to anyone, including those with allergies. We will be back!
