The Hotel Le Senat was an excellent base to explore Paris from. I was impressed with emails they sent prior to arrival asking if I had requirements such as directions and restaurant recommendations. Check in was friendly, smooth and efficient. All of the reception staff we dealt with were excellent, spoke excellent English and were keen to assist us wherever possible such as making reservations for dinner. The hotel was very quiet with good Wi-Fi and we had a flatscreen TV with French and international channels, in the room, for further entertainment. Breakfast is very good, with fresh tea or coffee, bread, pastries, fruit, meat and cheese, bacon and eggs, yoghurt, cereal and juice. Service is excellent and the staff speak English. Our room was small, as we expected in such a large city, but very comfortable, with a desk, window bench, a view onto the street, a small wardrobe and shelves, a bath/shower, fridge, kettle, hairdryer and good toiletries. There isn’t much space to hang things up in, just a hook on the wall and a small rail in the wardrobe. The water pressure and water temperature were excellent as was the heating. The bathroom was tiny with one of my pet hates which is creeping into more hotels which is an opaque door which you can see through, there’s no privacy, so if you share, make sure you are comfortable with the person you are with. You also need to watch the shower screen which swings towards you, and you can unexpectedly catch a limb on it as you get out of the shower. When you put the bathroom light on it also lit a light in the bedroom, so if you get up in the night to use the bathroom, be prepared you may wake up someone else in the room with this light. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well. The neighbourhood, in the heart of a huge city, is busy all the time and could be noisy for a light sleeper. The location of Hotel Le Senat is excellent. It is a minute’s walk to the Luxembourg Gardens and Odeon. The nearest RER station is a little further away with a direct line to the Gare du Nord and airport. There is a convenience store across the street and excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood. Notre Dame is a fifteen/twenty-minute stroll away, the Pantheon about ten. We really enjoyed our stay in Hotel Le Senat, it was everything we wanted as a base to explore Paris. Any criticisms I have mentioned are not the fault of the staff who were great, or the service we experienced, just the fabric of the building and the design of a small room, which was very comfortable. I would happily stay here again.
