Bougainvillea Barbados

My family and I just spent 4 nights / 5 days at the lovely Bougainvillea Barbados, and we cannot recommend it more highly. The resort was beautiful, and the staff were attentive, friendly, and professional. From delicious meals at the on-site restaurant (where they were able to accommodate our gluten-free needs) to expert help from the guys at the Water Sports desk, we enjoyed every minute. A big shout out goes to Ronaldo, who took me and my teenage sons on a sea kayaking / snorkeling adventure. This resort is perfectly located because you have everything you need on the property, but you are also a quick walk to Dover to get snacks, coffee, or breakfast / lunch from local cafes. And you can easily get a cab to Oistins, Carlisle Bay, or further afield for other island adventures. We ate some meals at the hotel, had some meals offsite, and also bought some groceries at the Massys in Oistins (walked there and took a taxi back) so we could have easy breakfasts / lunches / snacks in our room. We all loved the trip and hope we can go back. And we were there in the off / rainy season, but the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

Good but not great. I want to start off by saying the property itself is beautiful. The beach is stunning and the surrounding greenery frames the grounds like a pretty picture. It’s such a pleasure to walk downstairs from your room and the sandy beach is just a few feet away. But that isn’t to say the time there was as beautiful as the presentation. For the experience, I believe some improvements can be made. The kitchenette is dated and could use some sprucing. As for the Calabash restaurant, although I did love the French toast and had it multiple times, the rest of the menu was average at best. The portions and quality in relation to the prices do not correlate. There’s no reason a full English breakfast shouldn’t cover the plate it’s served on. I feel that if the restaurant improved its offerings and the property introduced an all-inclusive package, the stay would be worth it food-wise. Now for the taxi service. For some reason, the hotel quoted my mother and I $15 USD per-person as a flat rate no matter how far we were traveling. So if you and another person want to go to a restaurant that’s a 5 minute drive (or a 34 minute walk in the tropical sun), you’ll be charged $30 there and back. So that’s $60 USD just to be in the car for approximately 12 minutes total. No including the food you’re looking to order. As far as hospitality, still average. I don’t expect white glove service everywhere I go but, again, average. I’d even say below average. For us to be ready for checkout before 11am just for it to take 25 minutes for a bellhop to come take our carry-ons down to the lobby, and us not knowing that he even arrived once he did come to our room because he didn’t bother to greet us? Just took the bags from the patio and left? Not the warmest experience. I’d definitely visit Barbados again in the future but I wouldn’t be inclined to stay at Bougainvillea.

We have had a wonderful ten day holiday here at Bougainvillea. The sun hasn’t always shone but the staff and the amenities have been great. Multi generational holiday, the mix of pools kept everyone happy. Something for younger children to play in, a swim up bar pool for adults only and a pool to get some lengths in were perfect and of course the ocean is right there to welcome you in. Plenty of sun loungers on the beach and around the pools. The on site restaurant has a provided some delicious meals for us. Kids menu available as well as catering for dietary needs. All freshly cooked so be prepared to chill and wait for the food to arrive. It is well worth the wait. If you have a chance visit the spa for a massage. I think it was one of the best I have ever had. Would highly recommend this hotel and would love to return.

The hotel is perfect for families, would recommend to others for sure, I spent 4 nights with my sons. The room had a great view and was very spacious and comfortable; felt like home away from home. There's a pool with both a shallow and a deep end and a swim up pool bar as well. The restaurant has loads of tasty food and kid options. There's a modern gym and a kids games room that kept the kids well entertained. The staff was friendly and very attentive and their service was excellent. A great experience overall.

I just returned from an 18-night stay at Bougainvillea — my fourth visit since October 2023 — and once again, it completely lived up to (and exceeded) expectations. Every time I come back, I’m reminded why I keep choosing this place: it’s not just the beautiful surroundings, but the people who make it truly special. I can honestly say it keeps getting harder to leave. I have to give a massive and heartfelt shout-out to Michael from Watersports, who honestly makes every stay feel like coming home. From the moment we arrived, he greeted us like old friends, remembered exactly where I like to sit on the beach, and had our loungers set up every morning without fail — always with a warm smile and kind word. It's rare to meet someone so genuinely attentive and thoughtful. He doesn’t just work there — he cares, and it shows in everything he does. Michael has become such a core part of our Bougainvillea experience that I can’t imagine a visit without his energy, warmth, and consistent kindness. If you’re lucky enough to meet him, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. Another standout this trip was Josh at the pool bar, who kept us happily hydrated the entire stay. He’s got the perfect balance of charm, humour, and serious cocktail skills. I strongly recommend everyone try a Mudslide, especially if Josh is the one making it — trust me, he makes the best on the island. Possibly the best anywhere. Just be prepared… one sip and you’ll be hooked for life. It was a little bittersweet to see that a few familiar faces from my earlier visits had moved on since my last stay in September. That said, the spirit of Bougainvillea is still alive and well. Every single staff member made us feel so welcome and cared for — it’s that genuine warmth that keeps bringing me back. Already counting down the days until I return again. Bougainvillea, and the amazing team behind it, really have my heart.
