Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. The new owners have really spent a lot of time, money and effort on bringing this hotel up to a much higher standard. The service was really good. Everyone was focused on the customer experience. The bar and the restaurant at the back is in a different league now. Lovely decor. The food was really good too. I really liked the fact they bought a homemade roll out and butter at the start. Just like it used to be. The food was of a really high standard. Just 5* all the way. A really enjoyable experience. I am really looking forward to what they do with the place, as they are looking to add a Spa, Gym and a Cinema, so definitely will be coming back. Thank you for a great evening.

We are just about the check out after a weekend at The George with our two twenty-something children. The hotel is right on the square in the centre of Oakham. Perfect for exploring the town and all of Rutland. The hotel is under a gradual renovation but with no intrusive sign at all of ongoing work. The bar area is very well done with chesterfields and other comfy sofas around log fires. There are a couple of areas where the decor is a little dated, but I wouldn’t let that deter you as there is clearly a plan and there are so many, many positives. The staff are all charming and really added to our experience. Requests were met promptly, beds very comfy, great water pressure for the showers, pleasant outdoor seating area at the rear of the hotel, Rutland’s fresh air and private parking. The food was a major plus - the cooked breakfasts were amongst the best - sautéed potatoes that were delicious. We ate there spontaneously on the Saturday evening having arrived back at the hotel not long before the kitchen was due to close, but they quickly accommodated us. Beef Wellington ♥️ and fabulous selection of puddings ♥️ Good choice of wines. The hotel was busily full of happy guests, as was the bar area, with people meeting for morning coffee. We will definitely be booking in again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Truly the most wonderful stay. The Valentine Dinner was out of this world and all the staff were really kind and considerate. Everyone was especially wonderful to my 94 year old mother-in-law. I can't rate this place highly enough. Come here and I promise you will not be disappointed.

We went for a family birthday meal, the service was amazing, super quick and the food was delicious. The birthday girl was made to feel very special. Greg was our waiter and was fantastic the whole night. I would recommend to anyone and we will definitely be going back!

We went for my 50th birthday celebration with my family and it could not have been better. The food was beautiful, absolutely delicious and the service was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special by Greg, Cannot recommend highly enough. Thankyou

We had an absolutely fantastic time. Both the service and food were amazing. A very enjoyable evening, couldn’t fault it. Thank you for making our birthday celebrations so special. Greg did a great job of looking after us supported by Matt.

I feel compelled to write this review as I was witness to the guests behaviour that has written the review titled 'New Management should be ashamed'. Whilst I understand that there were some issues with this guests room when they checked in, they were quickly remedied by the well trained and dedicated member of staff on reception. I have seen this lovely 17th century coaching inn transformed by the new owner and his team over the past two years having stayed here several times during this time. Inevitably prices have had to rise as operating costs have gone up and the hotel has had significant investment. However, unbalanced, untrue and unfair reviews like the one I have referred to above that do not accurately reflect reality, can do reputational damage to these small businesses that are trying so very hard in these difficult times. I really don't know why people behave in this way. I stayed on the same night as this guest and I don't recognise any of the issues which they have highlighted. There were certainly a lot of other guests enjoying the facilities, who all seemed very relaxed and happy. I had another lovely stay and everything worked perfectly. To expect that a small coaching in located in a small market town would have a 24 hour manned reception is ridiculous in my opinion. The front door is locked at 11.30pm (not 10.30pm as the review states) with an option to use the back door and a number to call, if further assistance is required, which is posted on the front door and reception. This seems very sensible and perfectly adequate. The hotel was far from cold, particularly because we've had such mild weather over the past few days. The George Inn is on a journey of transformation and thus far the progress has been rapid from what I have seen and from what I have been informed of by the lovely members of staff, there's much more to come. Please don't let this guests unreasonable bias put you off trying them out. I shall certainly be back again - I love it.

The George Inn is a fantastic place, lovely bar area, roaring fire and superb staff. The hotel is a charming old building that is well located in the Market Place with car parking at the rear. We stayed for two days and will definitely be returning next year. Highly recommended
