Goatfell

Earlier this month, we returned to Goatfell to spend five nights in the Sri Lankan Hill Country. We had spent a memorable few days there last year, and we are pleased to report that it is still just as good. Happily, we arrived at the start of a period of dry sunny weather, but at 1900 metres, it is cold at night and often misty. However, Goatfell is a warm establishment in terms of temperature and atmosphere, and we enjoyed several evenings in front of the log fire chatting to other guests over an after-dinner drink. Again, the food was of the highest quality, and the chef was always happy to prepare dishes not on the menu - we had a particularly memorable dish of devilled chicken. All the staff provide an exceptional level of service with attention to detail. The area is great for hiking through tea plantations; the final leg of the Pekoe train from Kandapola in the valley below to just outside Nuwara Eliya was particularly enjoyable. Thanks again to all the staff, especially Askar, Deva, Yoga and Indika, for making this such a special place to visit.

Superbe hôtel avec une vue magnifique, une décoration élégante et une cuisine raffinée, le personnel est fantastique, il n’y a que quatre chambres c’est très intimiste. Le service est attentionné et efficace. J’y ai passé 2 jours de rêve !

Just the most wonderful place. Almost total silence, cool clean air and fantastic scenery. Great walking tracks. Exceptionally friendly staff and good food. Nice touches like hot water bottles to warm the bed and a log fire to sit by. You will need some warm clothes in the evenings and early mornings.

What a wonderful experience and great location. The service was excellent and the room was delightful. Such a cosy and welcoming place to stay. Although the mist had descended along with the rain it was such a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere that we didn't want to leave. Curled up by a burning log fire was idyllic.

für 3 tage wurde goatfell auf unserer sri lanka rundreise unser zuhause! wer könnte sich nicht verlieben... benannt nach dem höchsten berg der schottischen insel arran spürten wir hier die höche von fast 2'000 meter höhe, da wir leider regnerische und vor allem unerwartet kalte und neblige tage erwischten. ich liess mir den abend- und morgenschwumm im schönsten pool aller hotels jedoch nicht nehmen: 14 grad luft-, wasser- und haustemperaturen forderten uns, jedoch bemühten sich die so freundlichen angestellten mit feuermachen, bettflaschen und morbilder elektroheizung im zimmer für unser wohlbefinden. was aussererordentlich herausstach war das herausragende essen! wir lieben sri lanka essen und insbesondere beim frühstück liessen wir uns verwöhnen. der weg ist wie bereits in den bewertungen tatsächlich weit von nurawa elia entfernt, jedoch würden wir wieder hierher zurückkehren. wir danken allen angestellten für ihre sehr angenehme, zurückhaltende und trotzdem professionelle arbeit...

We have just spent 2 nights at Goatfell and felt it necessary to post a review. Sadly we were largely underwhelmed. The setting was impressive if not remote. The weather was poor and thus the hotel was very cold. There was a nice open fire in the drawing room in the evening which was welcoming but did not really heat the room satisfactorily. The worst criticism was however our room which only had a very small portable radiator. We asked for another one but because many of the staff had very limited English we never received one. We tried to keep the one radiator in constant use but it was on a timer and only ever on for a short period. The staff tried hard to please but we felt they were very poorly trained so the standard of service was substandard. We were on an all inclusive basis but frankly were very disappointed with the level of cuisine too. My take overall was that it was very poor value for money. We have toured around Sri Lanka for over a week and this was our fifth stop and by far the most disappointing and almost the most expensive. The cost of 2 days was £1496 and thus I felt we had very poor value for money. We are seasoned travellers and rarely complain but it would take a great deal of persuasion to book another Teardrop hotel!!
