The Residence Hotel at the Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club

Staff although not unpleasant lack any enthusiasm. Had to complain on arrival of broken toilet, on our return from being at a wedding all day, still hadn't been fixed. Boasts boutique hotel, however the facilities were very basic, no fridge, coffee machine etc which you would expect in such a place, especially when paying over £130 for the night! Large room and comfy bed, let down by lack of service and those finishing touches which make all the difference. Sadly wouldn't return or recommend.

Check in was OK but have to say the person who greeted us wasn't exactly enthused. Arrived at our room and could hear constant running water. The toilet flush was stuck, and we couldn't fix it, so advised the person on reception. We were at a wedding all day and evening, so said there wasn't a rush but can it be fixed for our return, which they agreed. On our return, you guessed it, it hadn't been looked at. This should have been sorted prior to our arrival, as it was obviously stuck when they serviced the room! The room was good, large and very comfy bed. They are described as boutique, not sure why as the facilities were very standard. kettle etc. No fridge or coffee machine which I would expect in such a hotel. Just felt lacking in care and attention, for £130+ for the night, they really need to up their game! Sadly would not return or recommend.

I hate writing poor reviews, but... Check in was awfully formulaic, rushed and not terribly friendly. Room had areally unpleasant smell, but this was rectified quickly and I was moved. The new room was delightful, thank you. I was given a tight window for dinner and the whole experience, apart from Charley the duty manager, was dreadful. Wrong food was ordered by a disinterested young man at the bar after a young lady, who was equally disinterested when I asked her where to sit and what the ordering process was. I then found out that what I'd ordered was unavailable, and something else arrived as a replacement, notbthat idcasked for it...I then received my Chicken Caesars salad with a hot and spicy chicken breast... just bizarre!!?? In the grand scheme of things, hardly life threatening, just terribly disappointing. It's a super place, just please employ people who want to be there and train them sufficiently.

We stayed two nights and we really enjoyed the stay. We wanted to visit Nottingham but not stay at a hotel in the city centre. Instead, we booked at this hotel and it was very peaceful, big family room, and fresh breakfast. Highly recommended!

Asked to be moved as the first bedroom we were allocated overlooked a high wall and courtyard full of discarded rubbish, very hot with a window that barely opened. Second bedroom much better with a balcony and good size room .Very comfortable ,staff very helpful and food excellent

Second time of staying within a month or so. We was allocated a room suitable for disabled etc (Willows) which wasn’t an issue but we would have preferred a normal bathroom with a separate shower rather than a wet room. Then upon retiring to our room after midnight following our nephews wedding reception we realised it was set out for single occupancy as there was only one towel, one bottle of water, one glass, one coffee cup etc etc which was soon rectified but we had to return to reception twice as there wasn’t any room telephone to call house keeping which caused problems as we only had one room keycard! We found some faults the first time we stayed, but hoped for improvement on our return visit. We are not impressed at all. Rooms are good but service and systems require attention. We will not be coming again in a hurry and we won’t be recommending it to our friends. Function room and bar was good, but the food left a lot to be desired unless you of course like over cooked and dried out starters and mains followed by a tasteless dessert.

Expected better was a bit disappointed considering the price. located in beautiful surroundings at first sight looks nice until you actually check in and walk to your room. all the carpets had stains on them through the corridors and the rooms were the same, it wasn’t isolated we had a few rooms all had stains on carpets. A couple of the showers had mould at the bottom of the shower screens. Booked for rooms with breakfast which wasn’t nice either help yourself style cooked and continental offering a variety of food however the only food that was nice was the fruit and packaged cereal overall very disappointing was looking forward to a little break but unfortunately it wasn’t that great.

Went here for my partners friends wedding, the room was filthy with cobwebs in the shower, carpet missing, paint work missing and cleaners walking round without shoes on. This was shocking for how much the room cost for one night. Needs improving and staff need to buy some shoes.

A difficult review to write as our stay wasn’t that comfortable. First of all, the staff are all good, pleasant, friendly and helpful though not very knowledgable in some areas. Don’t arrive at night! The winding drive is ill-lit and the parking areas are not lit at all. We had a room in the main building so we were surprised when the receptionist told us to go out the main door, turn right into the next door, up the stairs to our room. Not sure why she did this. When we left our room, we turned the opposite way along the corridor and found stairs leading straight to reception. No need to go outside. Room was well appointed but paralysingly cold. We couldn’t understand why no heating had been switched on but soon found out. After a very long tedious journey, we had intended to sit down, make coffee and relax. This plan was thwarted by there being only one chair plus the room temperature. We switched on the hot air heater and went for coffee downstairs………and returned an hour later to find the room just as cold…..because when the key fob is removed from the slot, it turns off not just the lights but the heating too! Went to bed later with the heating on,woke in the night and switched it off, woke again and turned it on……..as soon as the heater is turned off, unlike a regular radiator, it goes cold immediately, Whilst trying to sort the heating in arrival, we discovered that the heated towel rail in the bathroom was cold. Couldn’t find a switch anywhere. Enquired at reception when we went down to eat, receptionist didn’t know. She said there must be a switch somewhere! Well, yes we’d worked that out already. Eventually found the switch in the back of the wardrobe. Room was clean, mattress and pillow protectors, duvet too thin though and we were cold. No blankets in cupboard. Should have asked but forgot. Very good tea tray, delighted to have some decent coffee, Kenco. Shower room well set out, liquid soap plus individual shampoo and shower gel. Plenty of hot water and good size towels. Shower tray sadly lethal. No non-slip mat and no grab rail. After a brief skating session I showered by holding the shower rail with one hand, Full length mirror, decent hairdryer, plus iron and ironing board. There is a lift in this main building but for anyone with a mobility issue, there are swing doors to be opened. There are a couple of wheelchairs available to borrow. There are lots of other rooms scattered around the complex so if the weather is bad, you need to check how far from the main building. Breakfast. This has to go on record as one of the worst breakfasts we’ve ever had. It’s beaten by by the breakfast at a well known holiday camp which we visited, under duress, a couple of years ago. The online menu looks promising but that’s all it is…..an online menu. What you can have is an over cooked selection of items from the buffet. I enquired if there was any fruit. To be fair it wasn’t on the menu but I’ve NEVER stayed
