The Passage Villas

We would like to take the time to thank Michele and Svein for their hospitality and allowing us to spend such a magical time at the Passage Villas. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Rarotonga. Checkin was smooth, in fact, the owners were kind and flexible enough to let us know once the room was ready as we were on an early flight. The serenity and view the property gave was immaculate; you had the beautiful view all to yourself and surrounding was so quiet that we were truly able to relax and forget about our busy lives during our stay! The owners were also kind enough to let us know when a whale was passing by, it was amazing to be able to see this up close from your property! All of the recommendations Michele and Svein gave were excellent. Their communications were prompt and great (they even helped us out on something even when it was out of their office hours.) Our stay at Rarotonga was truly a rememberable one and no doubt deciding to stay at the Passage Villas was a huge contributor in this, thank you and see you again!

Michele and Svein were wonderful hosts, welcoming us after hours and setting us up for a lovely few nights' stay. Svien was always on hand to help in any way. The property isn't on a sandy beach; it is on a wild coastline, which was perfect for our kids - so no beach swimming, but the pool is large (one of the larger ones from our experience in Rarotonga). The room was good for a family. It is very old and tired, but they are in the process of renovating. The villas provide a good base to sleep and then go exploring the island for the day/s. The highlight of the stay was Svien picking a Coconut and opening it for the kids - they loved it!! Thank you

Great stay We had a great stay. Hosts were super engaging and the place was very nice and quite - car is a good idea if you want to get around to restaurants and sandy beaches. We had a great time would recommend to anyone

Great view from our room, private being upstairs also. Lovely hosts, very helpful. However for the price, one would assume that wifi would be in the room and toiletries supplied! Note the beach out front is also not swimable, on shore waves!! Recommend if you’re after a private stay near Muri Beach (3-5 min drive) though.

Small individual villas looking directly out to the sea. There are a small number of villas positioned in a way that there is plenty of privacy while also having perfect views out to the ocean. One room with a bed and couch, a small kitchen attached with a bathroom off to one side. Each villa has a covered deck so that even when it rains you can just relax and look at the view. The home made bar provieds a perfect place for guests to mix and mingle if desired. Fantastic sun rises with a perfect little seating area right on the water, I spent many hours just sitting and watching the water and fish from this spot. Appatently whales can be seen passing through just off of the beach at the right time of year. The owners were great, pointing out local spots and even inviting us along to a local dance competition and fishing weigh in. These were local events we never would have realised were on and were a fantastic addition to our visit to Rarotonga. Also great advice on local places to eat. The location is walking distance to the lagoon cruises and the night market but I suggest getting a car or scooter to see the whole island. We found that "just up the road" was always just past walking distance. On site there is a beautiful pool surrounded by tropical vegetation if you don't want to leave the property for a swim and there are plenty of great snorkeling places nearby. Due to the small number of villas it is a perfect little couples retreat or for a larger family group to have a place all for themselves.

We have just returned from a superb family holiday staying at The Passsge Villas in Rarotonga. I highly recommend this accommodation if you are looking for beachfront with spectacular views, peace & privacy all at a reasonable price. Very close to Muri for shopping, dining and swimming and only a short drive to Avarua. A rental car/bike recommended for convenience. The very sheltered ( deep) swimming pool was our favourite meeting place mid afternoon and whale watching was much enjoyed by all. Our hosts Michele & Svien were great and their daily service was an unexpected bonus. Pauline
