The food was OK in my opinion. Not great, but not bad either. It doesn’t help being told off for asking for more bread rolls (which are tiny). The view from the restaurant is a typical, beautiful, English countryside view and the old parts of the house are lovely. Whoever signed off on the planning permission, with its mishmash of new and old, poorly meshed together needs firing. Some of it looks awful. I wasn’t impressed with the room either. The bathroom lights worked on PIRs so they are on whether you like it or not. Not great if you get up in the night. And there was no air conditioning. The over bath shower was pathetic and luke warm and there was plenty of room to put a separate shower. For a premium hotel I’d expect proper coffee in the room rather than the cheap sachets you get in a Blackpool hotel. And the bed was hard. But again, it wasn’t terrible. The view from my room was of a small courtyard and what looked like laundry trolleys, so also a little disappointing given how spectacular the countryside is. It’s a strange place and I wouldn’t go back. Not because it’s terrible, but because I know there are better out there.
