Imagination Island

We stayed for 5 nights and loved it! The owners were super helpful, the rooms clean with beautiful views, insane snorkeling just off the restaurant, and tasty food! We came back to spend our last night here and were welcomed with smiles and familiar faces.

Such an awesome place to rest and recharge away from hustle and bustle and just simple living. Power is via generator and only for a few hours each day with solar fans keeping the air moving at night while you sleep. This adds to the sense of escape and the peace and tranquility of the island. Our hut was over the water with the most incredible views of the volcano opposite. A huge deck and hammocks for relaxing, table and chairs for games nights and comfortable beds for restful sleeping. Separate bathroom with composting toilet which worked beautifully. Each day our hot water thermos was refilled so we could have a cuppa on the deck with basic amenities supplied. The staff are super friendly and welcoming and can't do enough to make your trip more comfortable. Plenty of options for tours from the island at reasonable rates. We were on a diving trip and Dive Gizo picked us up each day to travel to a different dive sight. Two dives a day with lunch on a different island in-between. Diving was amazing, especially the war ship and plane. Food was typical Solomon Island ware. Fresh seafood, chips and rice/salad. Basic but wholesome and limited choices but always satisfying. Snorkelling around and under the restaurant was our absolute favourite pastime with beautiful coral and thousands of fish and the resident black tip sharks cruising around with us. Water temperature was like a bath, so comfortable for spending many hours swimming and snorkelling. The resort offers free activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking etc to help fill in time. Communication with Alphonsus is best via Facebook Messenger as wifi on the island is very patchy. Don't expect to be scrolling social media while here, again another benefit of this island, forcing us to switch off from everything. So, if you are in need of unplugging from the rat race then pack a great book and come to Imagination Island and simply breathe and relax. Our family loved the relaxed nature of this island and its people. Thanks Alphonsus and staff for the best week of rest we have had in a long time. Imagination is a tiny island with a building for rented rooms, overwater cottages and the owner's house. Nothing much else fits in there, and the restaurant is placed overwater too. It is so called Eco lodge, which seems to mean that if a facility does not have sufficient amenities like constant electricity or flush toilets it is given a fancy "eco" designation. The atmosphere of the place is like in a small fishing village with piers, small harbor and shrieking birds (flocks of them). Birds are not soothing rainforest birds but ones screeching and shrieking all day. And night (ear plugs become handy). There is a constant, pungent smell from guano. If they decide to have a fight near your balcony the noise is unbearable. Overwater cottages have two similar units, while there is one bigger cottage for single use. Cottages are Spartan but spacious: There is a separate bedroom and another room. The other room is very big but it has not not much furniture so the extra space is not used for anything and it is not a place to lounge. Instead, there is a a big balcony with a hammock and chairs, which is a perfect place to relax and read a book (if birds don't decide otherwise) The wall separating units is paper thin, so you will hear the neighbor talking to himself. What is extraordinary in the resort is the snorkling possibilities right off the restaurant. There is a lot of corals to study with colorful fish and reef sharks. Snorkeling gear, kayaks and paddle boards are included in the room price. Food is typical Solomon-like with crumbed seafood and sometimes chicken. The restaurant did not have much options to choose from, and as I was the only guest for the most of the time, they usually gave a whopping single item menu to select from. On the last day they did not bother preparing lunch properly but quickly defrosted a mud crab, and cooked it lukewarm with leftover rice from the previous day. Looks like the cook does not have much pride about what he is serving. But hey, why bother for a single customer. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, and make their best to make your stay comfortable.
