Pihopa Retreat

We spent three nights at Pihopa last week and wish we had planned to stay longer. Every part of our experience was wonderful. The rooms are beautifully appointed with every need or desire anticipated and met or exceeded...and the room rate includes it all. Delicious snacks and drinks always available in the room, including a yummy fresh baked treat waiting for us after our day's adventures. Sarah, the owner and host, was warm and gracious, as were all of the staff. Breakfast was fresh, abundant and delicious - the meal easily carried us through the day until dinner. Dinner reservations were made for us in advance, the suggested restaurants took into account our vegetarian diet, and a driver was available to take us back and forth to the restaurant each evening. We enjoyed chatting with other guests over pre-dinner drinks and canapes. We used the pool and spa, both immaculate and beautifully situated. Located just minutes outside of town, the rooms, grounds, and facilities make Pihopa a true retreat. Pihopa Retreat is a great base for exploring Abel Tasman, the regional wineries, and the local art scene. Highly recommend a stay a Pihopa!

All key touch points from temperature & lighting to lovely linen, bathroom products & yummy treats enabled our stay to be relaxing & luxurious. We loved being looked after including dinner reservations & taxi service, both feeling value-add, not intrusive. Sarah and her team know service. We just spent a delightful four nights at this beautiful quiet garden retreat. Sara and her team did everything they possibly could to make it a perfect stay. Extremely intelligently designed with attention to every possible detail, everything was laid out in the most delightful, appealing way. Flowers accompanied every dish and your exact desires were met. Be warned the breakfast are over the top huge and delicious. An effortless taxi service to and from your restaurants was included with your own private driver. It really made for an excellent experience. An example of their above and beyond service was offering and providing delicious abundant cheese plates when we were too tired to go out to dinner. Another guest was under the weather, had a desire for a dish from one of the local restaurants, however when Sara attempted to secure it for her, it was no longer available Sara’s husband Sam whipped up the gluten-free delight, which absolutely helped with her recovery. That was just one example of their above and above and above and beyond service. You will not be disappointed if you make this your resting place in Nelson.

A beautiful boutique hotel situated in idyllic gardens just outside of Nelson. We stayed in a superbly appointed suite with all comforts. Sarah and her team have an exquisite eye for detail and our stay was amazing. Beautiful handcrafted cakes and biscuits are provided together with a range of complimentary drinks. Breakfast is gourmet standard and beautifully presented. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The final welcoming touch is a prearranged dinner and transfer to the hotel and back. A truly beautiful place to stay. I can't recommend it highly enough. Gave us a real treat at the end of our stay in New Zealand.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The attention to detail is 10 star! The whole experience is fabulous from the nibbles and drinks to the magic taxi card that delivers you to and from a well thought through selection of local restaurants. And then there are the amazing breakfasts and do leave room for the delicious daily cakes left in your room. Their packed lunch was a life savour on the Tasman trail....

We recently spent 2 nights at the Pihopa Retreat with Sarah and the team and I can honestly say it's one of the best places I have ever stayed anywhere in the world. The service cannot be faulted, the rooms are immaculate and have everything you need including things to nibble and drink should you be hungry after the amazing breakfast. The happy hour at 6pm is great for meeting other guests and having the restaurant bookings and a driver to get you there and back safely is amazing.
