Jungle Lore Birding Lodge

It is a perfect base camp for the birding hotspot of Pangot. The lodge is located at the very edge of the town. At least one of its cottages is situated in the jungle teeming with birds. Talk shop with like-minded guests after a long day of birding while sipping a cup of tea in a cozy library, or around a roaring fire in the dining room, and plan the activities for the next day. Service is impeccable. With both of us being over 70 years of age and with our requirement for special meals, we were a pair of unusual guests, and the manager Mr. Bhuvan said as much. The team at the lodge was naturally concerned and went the extra mile to make our stay safe and comfortable. During our three-night stay, I do not recall any request that the team led by Mr. Tejmal did not cheerfully fulfill. We had the budding naturalist Kundan as a guide during our three birding excursions. Despite our age-related constraints, he managed to show us more than 50 species of birds and then set down to prepare a checklist of all the species that we had seen and photographed. That tells about his ability, and also his patience. The lodge is not a “hotel” in the usual touristy sense of the term. So do not expect a TV in the room, or anywhere else in the lodge. There is no phone. WhatsApp is the default means of communication. As the lodge is located right at the edge of a valley, expect to climb up and down some steep stairs. Even the mobile network coverage is patchy. All facilities are tailored to be functional. The rooms are heated and the electric blankets were life-saving on bitterly cold nights. There is running hot water in the bathrooms. Each of the cottages has a decent wi-fi for sharing the day’s hard work over social media. In summary, if you love birding, even if you are an old couple, barely wetting your feet in the hobby, this is the place for you.

The property is excellent situated amidst lush greens. If you want to have a peaceful getaway then this is the place. The staffs were very helpful, polite and the food served was delicious. The guide who took us for bird watching had good knowledge of birds and we were able to spot many new varities of birds. The rooms were neat and clean. Overall very satisfying stay for our family without mobile networks. It was a day with the nature and nature only.

Jungle Lore Birding Lodge is a welcoming and comforting place from which to explore the amazing birds of Pangot and surrounding areas. The staff are thoughtful and kind; the food fresh and delicious; the accommodation cosy; and above all, the location can't be beat. The lodge property itself is excellent for birding and admiring the forest. It is also in a prime location for accessing the broader area of Nainatal to view birds, mammals and incredible views of the Himalaya. Highly recommend!
