Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Norton Shores/Muskegon

This rating should be worse than "terrible" honestly. Back in June I had booked a room w/ 4 Queen beds as there was a group of 8 of us coming and we wanted to stay in one location, together, and also have a pool and hot tub available. At 11am THE MORNING OF MY RESERVATION I was notified by the hotel that the room I booked was not available and that instead we would be placed in 2 Queen Suites w/ 2 Queen beds and the rooms would be side by side. I expressed my frustration to the woman on the phone and explained that the whole point of the trip was for us all to be together as we do this once per year. She apologized but reassured me we would be happy in these 2 rooms. From the moment that we pulled up to the property I should have known it wasn't going to be a good situation, but ya never judge a book by its cover, right? The premises had trash everywhere, the parking lot was in horrible shape, there were people camped out outside the building, etc. 1. Upon entering the lobby, I immediately noticed the sign on the pool/hot tub door that said it was closed. The first question I asked was if the pool was going to be closed all weekend and I was told yes. No pool. No hot tub. 2. I proceeded to move forward w/ checking in and gave Donald at the front desk my name and explained the whole phone call conversation that I had received just hours earlier. He simply said "ok" and proceeded by asking for my ID and payment method. I handed him my ID and my card, signed the reservation agreement, and was handed the room keys. Very minimal communication from him at all except he did tell us where the room was located. 3. As soon as we entered the building our rooms were in, the smell was overwhelming. Mildew, trash, cigarettes, etc. The hallways were very dark and the carpets disgusting. We get to the first room and open the door and there was only ONE queen bed and it was NOT a suite. Didn't spend but only a minute in that room as it wasn't going to work for our group of 8 so no need to explore any further. Head to the room next door and this room did have 2 queen beds in it, but I'm not sure how it could be considered any type of suite. I've never seen a room in the condition this room was in in my life. I swear someone was pulling a prank on our group. I sat at the desk to call back down to speak to Donald at the front desk to let him know that we have 8 people and that we were only provided with 3 beds. He told me that the rooms he gave me were the only options available. I'm still not sure how this is possible when I made a reservation months prior. Mind you the entire time I'm trying to talk to him the cord to the phone continuously falls out and I keep losing connection with him. I told Donald the issue with the phone and that I would just come back to the front desk to speak to him. 4. This hotel is completely disgusting! As soon as you walk in you smell mold! My allergies were horrible! We had no thermostat to get ac and the ac unit was broken as well. We found mold on a lamppost and the rest of the room was filthy! We told the staff all these issues and nothing! We didn’t get to switch rooms, no refunds, no pool, no hot tub, fitness room machines were all broken and no towels or water. This place must never get cleaned. The floors in the hallway are all stained horribly and smell awful! Save the money and run from this place! Extremely moldy and disgusting! The staff are dumb and clueless about customer service or cleanliness. I will never waste my money on any clarion hotel again!

This was by far the worst place if ever attempted to stay in. Pulling in the parking lot started the red flags. I was truly hoping my GPS made a mistake going there. Walked in the room and turned on the lights, and lots of bugs scattered. The carpets were disgusting, the furniture was so gross and outdated, the covers were covered in stains. We walking right back to the desk and handed the keys back.Told the lady at the front desk that they should be condemned. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

First words—-Awful/Horrendous/Filthy Had no idea what we were about to experience. We stayed at this place because they were pet friendly; we brought our little 9 pound dog with us on this vacation. First thing, when we opened up the door to our room, Room 131, there were so many pee marks and stains on the carpet already , I thought I was going to vomit. The carpet truly was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY!! I can’t use any other words except filthy, but wait, there’s more. My husband and I took showers and some water got on the floor so I used the floor mat/towel to wipe it up. The mat was filthy, meaning the floor was filthy upon our arrival (see attached pictures). Walking around the room bare footed for about 30 minutes, I started to put my sandals on and thought, you should wipe your clean feet down because the carpet is filthy (see attached washcloth), that dirt on the cloth is from my clean feet walking on the carpet—GROSS!!! The phone in the room didn’t work, and the coffee maker took 10 minutes to brew one cup of coffee AND the toilet was not seated to the floor, meaning it rocked back and forth when you sat on it. The only good thing about this place was that the bed was comfortable and clean. We paid $149 for one night for this crap-hole!!! Never ever again. Run from this place, do not stay here!!

Front desk was quick and polite with my check in and check out. Breakfast was ok for the price paid. Room was nice and very clean. I usually have issues with temperature control in rooms but this one seemed to work perfect! Location was perfect for my needs.

Clarion Hotels should be ashamed. This place has to be the WORST “Clarion” motel in existence. We chose this absolute dump based solely on the name. Cannot believe that this place is an actual member of the Clarion Hotel group. HUGE mistake. Stay away. Stay far away.
