Virunga Homestayz

My partner and I stayed for two nights at this wonderful homestay. The experience was very clean, safe, and comfortable. I'd like to highlight three exceptional things that made this place stand out from all the accommodations we visited in Rwanda and Uganda: - John was an amazing host – always helpful, cheerful, and a pleasure to chat with. He even assertively assisted us with our luggage, which was much appreciated. - We planned an early morning hike on Bisoke and requested breakfast at 6 am (I believe it was that time). To our surprise, breakfast was prepared right on schedule, which is something we hadn't experienced anywhere else in Rwanda or Uganda. When you have early activities, it's crucial that the timing is spot on, and they truly delivered. - As we were leaving (heading next to Uganda that day), we found ourselves short on local currency, but they kindly allowed us to pay in USD or Euros. Our stay was genuinely enjoyable, and it’s the small gestures that make all the difference. Besides John, the owner himself was also exceptionally kind and welcoming.

We stayed in Francis' and his family's home stay for a week in Musanze and would highly recommend that you stay here. Firstly, Musanze is quite expensive accommodation wise, but Virunga Homestay offers beautiful clean and comfortable place to stay at great value for money. The homestay itself offers comfortable rooms, and fantastic shared spaces; including a large living room and dining area and nice balcony with views of Musanze's impressive volcanoes. As hosts Francis and his family are exceptional. During our stay Francis would continually help us with what we want us to do and would always be ready to offer support or advice; whether it was delicious and varied home cooked meals, laundry, or access to local swimming pools or hiking, Francis was always ready with immediate support. Throughout all this our privacy was well respected and we felt the full benefit of living in a homestay while being able to have time to ourselves whenever we wanted it. We were working remotely during our stay and had a great experience, having had difficulties elsewhere working in homestays in other places.

We live in Kigali and planned to camp for the weekend. Camping didn't work out, and Francis who was our guide mentioned he had a homestay. No pressure, we asked questions, he showed us the place and it was great. Location is central musanze, big house with many bedrooms and bathrooms. We were the only guests but they cooked a big Rwandan meal for us. Easy parking.
