Windermere Estate

A working tea plantation on the side of a small mountain. Family run and they couldn't have been more accomdating. Very peaceful setting with walking tours and bird watching if desired. They have a very nice swimming pool. Food was excellent and they were happy to cook more. Only reason for the 4 star rating is that they don't have an alcoholic bar. You can buy supplies in town and they are happy to provide ice to your cabin.

We stayed for two nights on a round trip through Kerala. The estate is in the mountains close to Munnar bordering a tea plantation, forest and cardamom plantations. It is led by ecological principals and it provides a peaceful environment to enjoy the beauty of the Munnar region. Accommodation was excellent, the food and restaurant very good and we had good views onto the whole valley and surrounding mountains, so we didn't much leave the area except for hikes.

What a beautiful spot in Munnar. Jacob and staff are so helpful and nothing too much trouble. Laundry was super quick and really inexpensive. We had a bit of an issue either safe but the management sorted it quickly Husband did the bird spotting trip at 7am and said it was fantastic. The 4pm plantation walk was good but we had some people in group who were in need of sticks and terrain isn’t ideal but guide is super informative and made a lot of stops to capture the questions The meal option at Windermere was a set menu which in itself was no issue for me however not knowing what the menu was beforehand was strange. Cost approx £12 pp. one of our party didn’t like any of the meals one night but staff offered a replacement meal and manager waived the charge which was really nice of them. I would recommend the plantation and would return again but I would also say the terrain is not completely without challenges for anyone struggling with stairs or uneven steps depending on room allocated. So ask about this before you arrive.

A jewel in the crown, all the little details which made our stay special. The owner John Simon (aka " the caretaker" his words not mine) was friendly and informative about the area. Nothing was too much trouble. We were discussing our love for literature and he recommended two books about Kerala.... The next morning he walked up to me and handed me one of the books to take home! There are two walks, one early morning bird watching and an afternoon walk to the plantation. Regarding eating; there were two choices of meals meat and vegetarian, both were fantastic tasty and loads of it! You need to bring your own alcohol if you wish to have any as the hotel doesn't have an alcohol licence. A beautiful and restful 2 nights here. Highly recommend.

A unique and wonderful experience staying at Windmere. Picturesque setting, fantastic food served family style, walks around grounds and cardamom plantation were very worthwhile. The spirit and mood of the resort is welcoming and like a peaceful oasis from the world commandeered by Simon the owner. Thanks for creating such a perfect getaway!

An amazing large property with spacious AC rooms with terrace with splendid views, large stylish bathrooms and extremely attentive and friendly staff. for bird watching, relaxing by the pool. Excellent Meals served in a separate dinning area by the river. A very pleasant and relaxing place to get away from the busy world.
