The Packhorse Inn

Great hotel but let down by noise in room Was staying for business, hotel and service were excellent and food a high standard. My only issue was the bedroom (The Folly) was directly above the kitchen so very noisy until just after 11pm and then again from 7am. Wouldn't return as I value a good night's sleep which is a shame as otherwise ideal for my needs.

We arrived a little early before check-in and enjoyed a few drinks in the bar which has two functioning fireplaces and a friendly local feeding them logs. The Packhorse is a tastefully modernised hotel with function and dining rooms. In one you can see the steps down to the cellar - the wine list is well represented and a joy to plunder. Our room, Folly (they’ve all got horsey names) had a roll top bath. Toiletries are by Bramley. We were given fresh milk in a little insulated bottle for the coffee machine. Dinner was delightful and served by Amira. We had ham hock terrine with molasses soda bread, an unctuously delicious shepherds pie with mixed greens, then creme brûlée with poached pear and chocolate icecream. We had South Australian Shiraz by Mr Goose and one bottle wasn’t quite enough! Next morning we were served by Becky with a massive East Anglian fry up (“the best ever” he said) and I had sourdough toast with smoked salmon (my idea of the best). There are also plenty of pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurt and fruit to help yourself to. Would we go again? Yes, most definitely!

Overnight stay My wife and I stayed overnight to meet up with family and have a meal together. The room was lovely, clean, and welcoming. Bathroom was modern and clean with good shower. The staff were very friendly and the service was great! We had a meal in the restaurant which was wonderful, the breakfast was equally as good! All in all a great stay and I can see us revisiting.

Wonderful overnight stay! Warm welcome from very friendly staff. Beautiful bedroom with a very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Food was delicious, excellent wine list and service was spot on….. Highly recommend and we’ll be back….

Best in Class Hard to say much more positive about these guys and the group - they are just the best! Food - Drink - Hospitality they get it right every time!

We stayed here last night. On arrival pub extremely busy being a Sunday but checked in half hour early. We stayed in the Primrose room which was stunning with view over meadow, massive bath!! Downside was above pub so if you're a light sleeper like me be warned it's noisy in evening plus breakfast staff arrive 7am! Breakfast OK my husband enjoyed his I however opted for the smoked salmon scrambled egg the eggs were bland with no flavour think chef needs to source new supplier but our waitress was very nice! Our meal Sunday eve was a roast which was huge but delicious one other critic was no milk supplied in our room for hot beverages but apart from that we do recommend and would return but get an outside room which are smaller but would be quieter
