I stayed 4 nights at Coral lodge and it was a spectacular experience! I would definitely come back to this beautiful place, and next time, I would make my stay longer! The staff are very welcoming and hospitable; the food is amazing (they serve very generous portions), you get a breath-taking view of the ocean and the lagoon; and above all, they have many activities (my personal favourite was Canoeing, the staff even taught me to Canoe!). I went during the whale season, and it was a magnificent and memorable experience. Though I travelled alone, a few of the staff accompanied me on the boat trip to see the whales, so it made me feel comfortable, and safe as well. I highly recommend this place for solo travellers like me, who at times want to disconnect from everything around to connect with nature. I did Canoeing in the lagoon almost every day, it was a peaceful experience; and when you canoe through the mangroves, you could see the lagoon fish from the surface, and you also see birds and monkeys at times. Then on your return trip, you could see the beautiful sunset. The visit to Cabeceira village was one of the most touching experiences for me. It was nice to know that most of the staff working at the lodge are in fact employed from this little village, thereby supporting the local community there. I even learnt that the bread that is served at the lodge is sourced from a baker in this village. During my village walk I even managed to see where some of the staff lived in this little village and encountered some of them there. If I had stayed longer, I would have definitely gone back again to spend more time with the community in this village. I also watched the sunset under the famous baobab tree. The team takes you on a little walk to watch the sunset and packs some snacks and a drink. To get there, you need to cross the lagoon from a Canoe, if it is during high tide (and I was all excited for any number of Canoe rides). The lodge is located minutes away from Ilha da Moçambique, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you can also ask the lodge to organise a visit there. The lodge has about 10 villas in total, and if you get the beach villas, you could see the dhows sailings on the turquoise waters from your villa. There are 47 staff in total, so you can imagine the level of care and attention every guest gets, and the standard of quality they maintain. I most definitely felt pampered, and everything was planned with much attention to detail.
