Just completed a fabulous stay with our two children. It is a terrific value - a fraction of the price of hotels at fancier French resorts but equally nice, if not more so! The hotel is located in the Hameau de l'Obelisque enclave of Montgenevre where there are a few small upscale hotels that are a bit nicer than those in other parts of the town, although everything is close together and you can walk from one of end the village to the other in 10 minutes. The hotel is a true ski-in/ski-out, although we choose to walk 5 minutes to the other side of the pistes and skied back at the end of the day. The staff at the hotel (front desk, restaurant, housekeeping) were all extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were nicely decorated, modern but still chalet-style, and everything looked brand new (the hotel is three years old). Breakfast was a real highlight - diverse offerings and high quality. We also enjoyed the pool table and the giant foosball/mini foot table that could accommodate 6-8 players - lots of fun with our kids. The only downside was the spa - they offer a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, all of which were fine, but were in an enclosed space rather than outdoors or with any windows, which was a bit disappointing. That said, they said they've got the permits for and will start working on an outdoor pool area next year. (Note to the hotel: The spa area is extremely slippery - we saw several people slip and did ourselves as well). Other thoughts for people considering this hotel and Montgenevre in general: The ski resort itself is huge, even if you don't go all the way to Sestriere (which was about 1 hour by several lifts). The resort is also high and the snow at the top was very good even if snow at the bottom was pretty bad this week - it didn't spoil our skiing at all because there's so much terrain up high. In France, we've skied at Val d'Isere, Courchevel, Megeve and some smaller resorts, but Montgenevre is by far the best value - excellent skiing and accommodations without the ridiculous price tag. That said, if you're looking for apres-ski, gourmet restaurants and designer shops, you won't find them here.
