Great Eastern Motor Inn Gympie

We stayed here on our way through as a family travelling with a pet. The staff are lovely, the room was clean and comfortable and the location is convenient and safe. Ticked all the boxes for us! Recommend staying here if you are travelling with your pets.

A lovely motel, very clean, quiet as set back from the road and set up with everything you need. Lovely host who accommodated us late at night, as we had been let down by another booking in the area. We would definitely stay again. Thank you for your hospitality!

Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Rooms at back of motel are quiet with no highway noise. Restaurant and bar open from 6pm nightly. Right across the road from the park with lots of birds. Rooms are reasonably priced. No ceiling fans but does have reverse cycle air-conditioning.

Next to the highway. Unfortunately the truck noise is terrible - about one a minute all night long under throttle going up the hill or air braking going down. I was at the back and had to wear an earplug and noise cancelling headphones and it was still loud. Not the motel’s fault of course but I’d avoid unless you are comatose or profoundly deaf. I’m deaf in one ear but that was no help here.

We stayed one night at this motel on 10 Dec 2022. I’ll give this Motel ONE Star because the room was clean. We know it was clean because we had to wait 2 hours while it was being cleaned. When the Booking was made we asked if we could access the room earlier than 2.00. pm., and we were assured that it would be ready by 12.30pm. During this booking session, we were charged $100 bond/deposit for having a dog in the room, which we were told “The deposit is fully refundable when you leave”. On arrival just after 12.00, the lady at the desk said, “Yair, Nah…there’s no note here about early arrival. The room hasn’t been cleaned and I don’t have a cleaner to do it. You’ll just have to wait.” So we waited in 30c+ heat while the room was cleaned. Even though the Motel offered dog friendly rooms, there were no bins anywhere around the Motel for us to dispose of the dog’s Pooh Bags. The room provided one small waste basket, and that was for all rubbish. I ordered a Pizza from the Restaurant, and was told that it would be ready in about 30 minutes. I went to collect it after 20 minutes and when I got the pizza it was cold. The $100.00 dog deposit has not yet been refunded. Numerous verbal and written attempts to have the refund processed have been ignored. The Manager, Steven, assured us, each time we called, that it was on top of his list and it had been done. He said that it is all your banks fault. Attempts to obtain a copy of the docket he says was done, have proved fruitless. He refuses to assist us in any way in giving our bank the required details. It appears to me that this guy may be running some sort of scam, by NOT refunding such deposits.

We chose this motel as we were travelling with pets and Gympie was the halfway point of our trip. We were charged $40 above the normal rate of $130 for room cleaning for pets which I thought was just reasonable and a $100 refundable deposit for room damage which I was not worried about as our cats do not damage furniture. It was a large but very ordinary room but we put up with as it was just one overnight stop however our $100 damage bill was not refunded. After four attempts at getting the manager to return my calls I finally caught her. I was told that the damage bill was retained as the bed blanket had fur on it and had to be washed ( the blankets were folded down as the rattling aircon did not cool the room). I then reminded her I had already paid for an extra cleaning bill and the story abruptly changed that the blanket had to be thrown out as the fur would not come off .( going by the age of the furniture nothing ever seems to have been thrown out ) The manager then stated that animals have to be kept in cages in the room, really??? then why is there an extra cleaning charge. I informed her that my cats done her a favour by hunting down cockroaches all night. She then said she saw no cockroaches in the room when she cleaned it, I told her I had flushed the bodies down the toilet as I did not want to tread on them, Her reply really stumped me as she said I should have left the carcasses on the breakfast bar for her to see. So our 10 hour stay here now cost us $270, for that money this is what you can look forward to, rock hard bed, wafer thin pillows, no power point near the bed for a cpap machine (which my wife uses), non existent Wi-Fi, tiny tv that keeps on losing reception, a huge amount of highway noise from trucks, tiny car space with no lights for early departures, the restaurant and bar were shut when we were there, maybe that was a stroke of luck. Look elsewhere.

Very comfortable and spacious room well equipped for our 2 nights stay. Great to have a large bathroom and large hand basin. It was so good to finally have hand towels, face washers and a hair dryer, items which were not included in many of our other accommodation places during our 2 month road trip!! It was also great to have a toaster and microwave, again items often not included in many other motels. Excellent lighting, plenty of power points in convenient positions and ALL bathroom toiletries supplied, including shaving cream!! Only one small complaint, 2 light globes were out which we reported but were not fixed during our stay. Overall, great accommodation which we'd highly recommend and would certainly return!

We've been staying here for the past 3 days and all I can say "Wow! Fantastic Place to stay for a home away from home atmosphere"! Stephen and Lisa were great hosts and always willing to please. And James was a total gentleman, always willing to help in any way he can. A totally beautiful property with great staff, great food and service. Definitely recommend it as a place to stay while in Gympie...

Good clean room, all we needed after long drive. Had problem with internet, but told Gympie flood has diverted Telstra 's resources elswhere. Staff very helpful and obliging. Would stay there next trip.
