Surf: I’m an intermediate-to-advanced surfer from San Diego, and honestly, the waves at Mizata are completely overrated. They’re fat, rarely hit the point properly, and are a lot of work—wide closeout sets, cliffs, and just overall inconsistent. I stayed there for over a week during summer with consistent chest-to-overhead swell. Locals kept saying it would get better when it got smaller, bigger, a different angle, etc.—but it never did. I didn’t see a single decent turn go down the entire time (from visitors or locals). It was mostly just me and my brother linking a few fat wrapping sections. It’s really not good. The beachbreak had zero structure. We only paddled out before dinner just to get wet. Eventually, we hired a driver to take us to Punta Roca, which was a much better wave (though honestly still a bit overhyped). Would definitely not recommend Mizata to any surfer actually looking for decent waves on a surf trip. Feels like someone at El Salvador tourism or Surfline got paid to hype it up. Resort: Feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be—relaxing wellness resort or party spot. You’ve got yoga on one side and drunken tattoos on the other. I don’t really see the overlap. Plus, there was construction going on, which made it nearly impossible to actually enjoy the surroundings. Accommodation: The rooms were just fine—nothing spectacular, but at least they were clean. Food: Decent overall, but definitely some misses. Mostly felt like a lot of worse versions of Mexican food. Overall: All marketing, no substance.
