Tan-Swiss Lodge

We stayed at Tanswiss for 2 nights during our visit to Mikumi National Park, the place offered good facilities that suited our family like a swimming pool, swings for our toddler, the stuff were friendly, food was delicious and served quickly compared to many other places we stayed in Tanzania, we were also partnered with one of the best guides from samkalina tours and safari , Patrick who was able to find all the top 4 animals available at Mikumi, he took good care of our 3/7 year old keeping him engaged and interested in the game drive and offered him a pillow when he slept in the car, our family are grateful to have had such an amazing person showing us Mikumi National Park and sharing tones of information on different animals and birds we got the pleasure of seeing. It pains to leave such a bad review for a Lodge where I had GREAT Service, good food and average/low room/ atmosphere (value for money). BUT the environment is suffering from well known and well reviewed places such as this one & I hope by writing this management will CHANGE PLASTIC HABITS. Tanzania prides itself with top notch National Parks & Marine Parks and attracts millions of tourists due to the Wildlife, Beaches & Sea life. Meanwhile Lodges such as this one are offering all of their packed lunches in PLASTIC. "Millions of marine animals die each year as a result of plastic pollution.(...) Plastic straws harm sea turtles in a number of ways. As mentioned earlier, the ingestion of plastic straws can lead to health issues and death. Plastic straws can also harm sea turtles by getting caught in their nostrils or throat. This can cause the turtle to suffocate or prevent it from feeding properly. Plastic straws can also entangle sea turtles, making it difficult for them to swim and hunt for food. All of these factors can have a significant impact on the health and survival of sea turtles." There are so many alternatives to plastic & single use: filter your water and don't use plastic bottles, get some Tupperware/Shoppers has great Safari style boxes, use your beautiful and useful nature (banana leaves for wrapping instead of tinfoil) ... There is really no excuse- especially in Tanzania, when the majority of your customers are there to enter National Parks! Not to mention other consequences of plastics: clogging drains, leading to increased mosquito swarms (as a result, malaria); death of livestock including goats and cows; pollution of the land & ocean; eating & drinking of micro-plastics (causing diseases incl. cancer). We stayed at Tan-swizz for one night when visiting Mikumi park. Staff was very friendly and well organized. I have never before been served food at the agreed time in Tanzania as we experienced here :) We were a large group of 13 people and ordered our meal ahead of time, at seven sharp they then came out with our food as agreed. We also asked to have our breakfast slightly earlier than the regular breakfast time which the team organized, also this keeping time and with all the lunchboxes correctly packed. We really appreciated the service minded and efficient team working at the hotel! Rooms were ok, a bit old-fashioned and worn down but clean. Hot water and functioning AC in the room. Large nice pool that the whole family enjoyed. Good value for money!
