Hotel Riu Palace Meloneras

Positives. A very spacious hotel in a perfect quiet position with extensive sunbathing and swimming areas leading down to the promenade. Great choice of buffet food. Very comfortable and spacious side sea view room. Excellent evening entertainment on two stages both indoor and outside Iincluding Il Divo and Motown tribute acts. Reception staff very helpful. Negatives. Shower kept going hot and cold by itself. Large bathroom had two sinks. Soap dispenser in wrong position on extreme right. No British TV channels other than BBC and SKY world news. Very busy restaurant ran out of wine glasses one night when we ordered our bottle. Why not stagger food times? Long wait for pre-ordered special dietary requests to be served from kitchen(my wife gluten free) No allergies shown on food labels at food stations. Would have been nice to have a water based activity such as aqua aerobics. The hotel boasts five pools! No animation team to entertain/engage quests. Antiquated hand written sign a chitty and write your room no for drinks and extras, not charged automatically to your room from the room card. I was charged for another guest's drinks as the staff misread their room number on the chitty as mine! PLEASE UPGRADE YOUR IT SYSTEM - DON'T RELY ON GUESTS TO FIND MISTAKES.

Excellent hotel, location, cleanliness, staff/service levels however standard room bookings can be a bit of a lottery as we have discovered during both our stays at this hotel, ie room location may not be up to overall standard of the hotel. Fortunately due to the excellent staff and service action was taken to relocate us to a better room. Strongly recommend the hotel but worth checking directly with the hotel the location of the room you have been allocated.

A place to unwind and relax. The pools were amazing and heated to a good temperature so going for a swim was a pleasure. I have been to other hotels in March in the Canaries and they have had wonderful pools but absolutely freezing so can’t go in them. Very important to me as I like to have a morning swim before breakfast. I would return to the hotel just for the pools. Everything else was very good, the food, service, cleanliness. Good size rooms with a very comfortable bed and lots of storage space. Lovely balcony with good views. We were on the 3rd floor with a side sea view room. The hotel has a feeling of grandeur especially in the reception area. My one gripe is that we got the RIU transfer to the hotel which took about an hour which was acceptable but going to the airport they transfer was going to pick us up 5 hours before our flight. We did not want to hang about the airport for that length of time so got the hotel transfer which cost us 55 euro.
