Harpur's of Melbourne

The staff went out of their way to be helpful to find a room for someone with mobility problems at present. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The accommodation itself was in a terraced house across the road from the main hotel, and had been beautifully converted to include a bedroom with a comfortable double bed, a bathroom, a kitchen with numerous appliances (including a kettle, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and more), with a modern bathroom and back door which opened onto a small terrace. Everything was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. My only minor criticisms concern some points which could easily be put right. Although the accommodation was clearly intended for two people, there was only one chair in the entire place, and not even a small table, which is odd when you have cooking facilities provided! The electric blind in the bathroom did not work, nor did the bedside lamp (presumably just a battery and a bulb which needed replacing). I would recommend this place highly.

Stayed at Harpurs for a night on business trip. Initially on check I was a little concerned as the staff member checking me in seemed a little disorganised , I was also disappointed as I was told breakfast wouldn’t be available the following day. Room was ok. Tv placement a little odd, also difficult to open windows to get airflow through. Given the heat opening the windows was important. I had dinner in the bar. The barman was a breath of fresh air. I am so accustomed to staff that don’t seem to care. Have no knowledge of menu or drinks. This gentleman was the opposite. No request too difficult. I ordered the squid and the pizza. Both very good. Served with nice locally brewed beer. Overall a good nights stay. I would recommend and will stay again if I need a hotel in the area.

We stayed on two occasions over one week and were booked into a small flat each time - this was just across the road from the restaurant. Excellent stay and we ate at the hotel both nights - one was a Sunday and we thoroughly recommend the Sunday lunch. Manager and staff very friendly even though the bar and restaurant always seems busy. The food is really nice from a very hard working chef and kitchen. Melbourne is a small but lovely town with lovely buildings and walks around an estate lake. Seems to be quite an active community for things going on during the week. We would definitely stay if down this way again.

Brief overnight stay whilst attending an event at Donnington. Easy to find, free parking if resident. Very noisy on arrival early evening but that's to be expected on a Bank Holiday weekend and we were able to have relaxed pre dinner drinks in the courtyard garden. Beautifully appointed bedroom and bathroom (though would have appreciated bottled water in room). Dinner was fine but what made this stay so enjoyable was the wonderful staff, especially the two young guys who looked after us extremely well and this was most appreciated. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here after a wedding that was a short walk away, Hotel room was very clean and comfy. Thought it would be noisy as we looked out on the road, but it wasn’t. Staff were very friendly . Only slept here , didn’t eat so can’t comment on food, but it looked a busy place

Amazing food, lovely decor and ambiendce, attentive friendly staff, an overall all-around enjoyable dining experience. Excellent choice of starters mains and desserts. Although the place was busy the staff were on the ball to make sure everyone had an enjoyable time and you weren't waiting for your food. If you visit on a Sunday kids eat for £1 so well worth a visit. I would highly recommend and will definitely be going again, can praise the staff enough.

Very nice hotel in a great location. Great food and friendly staff. Room was very clean and comfortable. Very busy bar area, however being popular is no bad thing. Located in the centre of Melbourne Close to other bars and shops. Would definitely come here again.

Harpur's provides a good pub stay option in Melbourne. The Deluxe Double rooms & Suite provide large, modern, comfortable accommodation at a very reasonable price. There is no air conditioning in the rooms which can be problematic in the summer but generally isn't an issue. Breakfast isn't available on weekdays but there are a couple of great cafes within a short walk.

There were 14 of us pre booked for a hen night meal.. The food was not the best and despite choosing and paying in advance some choices were unavailable on the night,the alternatives served were not nice.Salads are mainly lettuce with very little else. On the plus side,after complaining were given a refund on the items not good.Drinks are very expensive. The atmosphere was good and the bride to be had a lovely night. The staff are very nice and friendly and dealt well with complaints.Will not return.
