The Strand, Dugort Achill

Warm welcome, room clean and comfortable. Could do with some updating but work is in progress. Very accommodating!! Food is amazing!,!! Fish and chips and chicken curry outstanding and great value for money. Will definitely book again!!!

Having read the reviews we weren’t feeling too confident about this hotel for food. We were very pleasantly surprised! Really lovely staff who couldn’t do enough for us. The fish and chips was excellent and our friends asked if the chef could do them a fish curry. The chef was very happy to oblige and produced an amazing seafood curry with rice AND chips!!!

We were staying at the campsite opposite so thought we would have a cooked meal as a treat. How wrong were we, we walked over, ordered drinks and took a menu, we then waited and waited and waited for the server. She took orders from people that arrived much later than us and after around 40mins waiting we decided to leave. They obviously didn't need our business so they didn't get it.

Just popped in for a drink on a Sunday evening but wanted to say how lovely this place is. Friendly staff, good value, clean and a great view too! I think it’s under new management from the signage.

I was more comfortable camping than staying in this hotel, Yes staff were nice place was relatively clean but very out dated beds were old and uncomfortable, shower wouldn’t work and breakfast was terrible. This Hotel needs some money invested into it as it sits on the most picturesque location of Achill My advice is stay looking there’s loads of b&bs over near Keel that are well maintained and very welcoming Enjoy your stay in Achill !!! 🏖️

I just had to set up a trip advisor account to leave a review for this amazing hotel on Achill Island! A group of 10 of us arriving in Achill for a weekend of sport. The strand hotel the only option that was available on such a busy weekend, but it was very easy to get to and in a great location! It was sitting right on Dugort beach which was just meters away! The staff were just simply unbelievable, nice, helpful, attentive - bend over backwards to ensure guests were happy! A special note to Margaret who seems to take care of everything from check-in, serving at thé bar, breakfast/dinner, guest care and rooms. There is so much pride for this hotel you can tell this from the locals who attended on Saturday night, there was a fantastic atmosphere in the bar. It’s a meeting point, it’s a place to go and it’s a necessary focal point of Dugort! Granted the hotel is rough around the edges but the soul of the hotel lies with the staff and how happy the guests were upon checkout. Margaret and staff went to all lengths to make sure we (a group of 10 young lads and lassies) had a happy and comfortable stay! The rooms were everything we needed comfortable, clean and was actually fairly quiet! The food was delicious - I got the chicken burger on our first night and it was amazing! Kudos to the new chef on site! After a full on sporting day on Saturday, the full Irish breakfast on Sunday morning was much needed and set us up for the drive home! Again, The staff were extremely attentive and were very patient with us (10 in our group)! I would absolutely stay at the Strand Hotel again, a great gem of Achill! Just to note that the previous reviews dont do this hotel any justice! Please go and experience it for yourself! But remember your not booking The Ritz!
